I'm going to be stripping (halfway through) the interior of my 6, buckets going in but I am wondering if anyone has done anything with the rear end such as carpeting it for sound deadening. I'm stripping as I'm going for a cage but only so if I do roll the thing I may survive and not too fused on the weight saving, if it gives a bit of comfort. Anyone got any photos of something like this that they have done or has everyone who stripped the seats just gone for lightweight and f**k the comfort?

Only way it'll work is if you put sound deadening back in as well imo although as you say for comfort purposes that's not a bad idea if your not chasing weight as it does make it noisy and rattly + I'm in the process of painting mine as Its not painted to nice under all that carpet lol

I left the thin boot mat in to stop the vibration from the boot floor, rear 3-quarters just got a strip of foam + tape across them to tone down the rattles some. It's not too bad.

Yeah, well it's going to be on the road for some of the time and I can't see that much difference by removing some carpet really. I was trying to say but failed at saying there is carpet with a sound deadening backing to it that you can buy, just haven't seen people using it on a 6. I'm going to be spraying the inside when I get it resprayed, just thinking of keeping the noise down and stop everything sounding of rattling

Even some lightweight carpet like the kitcar lads use will stop most of the rattles/vibration.

That is the exact sort of thing I was thinking about, would flocking it be a possibility on the pillars. Think that would look better maybe? I was even pondering putting a sheet of carbon fibre on the floor then carpet that to take the ridges out to make it one flat floor. Being too fussy?
Thinking about the weight saving, I always run at least a quarter of a tank to keep the back end weighted slightly. When it's got an empty tank you can feel how skitish the car can be, although that may have been the beam and rear mounts being shot that caused that?

If you're getting the carpet I'd just use that all over, wouldn't bother trying to make the floor flat, just another thing that could cause annoying vibrations

Good point. I've been looking into pop on fastners to fix the carpet to the floor, I don't want to glue it as I'm putting a cage in over the coming months and will have to remove for that. Or I can just do the more sensible option, which has just occured to me and just wait till the cage is in. Makes more sense I'm sure. At least I've got the idea in my head, on the hunt now for carpet!

Doing all the work for me here! That's the stuff, 450g per square meter, so will probably add 3-4kg and it will be so much nicer experience to be in. Plus, are those 3-4 kg going to make THAT much difference, I'm only doing the track days for fun so it's not like I'm against the clock or anything. When I charge it aswell it will make even less difference Smile

I went down a similar route for day to day comfort. I just put a thin acoustic carpet in
It also makes the 'boot' a bit more usable, and stops anything sliding all over the shop and scratching the bare metal

If you wanted to flock it to the pillars, you could consider something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/self-adhesive-closed-cell-foam-sheets-sound-proofing-size-2mtr-x-500mm-x-3mm-/300889146908?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item460e64061c

The back is adhesive so you could stick it to pillars like that?
