The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fecking temperamental.

i do plan on keepingi the car for the next......6 years (same time i had the i.4)

the suspension im happy with. i got coilovers on the front and lowered 40mm on a newly refurbed back. its got 205 1.9 gti wheels chrome powder coated with toyo proxes on. 15mm hubcentric spacers with extended bolts. the came belt has just been done so unless its a serious problem like that, i may be able to keep the engine. i have a sneaky suspision the starter motor is f*cked and the gearbox will need work. the exhaust...... im not to sure on how standard it is the cat looks like a fast flow one. the back box is aftermarket rounded square stainless shiny thing. im not to happy with it. i prefer the smaller oval i had on my 1.4 i may see about getting that fitted aswell. although thats somehting i can do myself really.

The 1.4 one probably won't fit, will be a 2 inch bore. The 6 is 2.5 inch iirc. I'd go for a full system not just a backbox. A decat is a must! Pop pop pop Thumbs up
If it's the starter then that's gonna save you a fair bit.
I'd defo get the box rebuilt by miles/pug racing and get a set of his gear rods

thanks for the advice i would like a rebuilt biox and what ever else is needed for my engine aslong as its worth spending the money on the block still

oh no worries its actually 3.5inch with a custom reducer. so there no worries for restriction from it Smile just needs some welding Smile
i also have a complete decat + straight throuigh pipe sat at my unit. however........i did the decat thing on my 1.4 and it ruined the induction noise with a loud overpowering farty exhaust. and gave me no real noticable power gains. i can imagine similar results on the gti. flames licking out the backkbox would be nice though .unless im wrong?

other thing was without the cat or mid silenceer the back box gets silly hot and has slowly been warping my bumper

It wasn't the decat that was the problem, it was the power-sapping 3.5 drainpipe you'd fitted after it.

The engine which came in my track car was kaput, after stripping it down i decided it would be much cheaper and easier to just buy a known good second hand engine from a well established member on here and bang that in. It was a slight gamble with £400 but it was much cheaper than having to get the original engine back up and running, which would have needed the block boring, a new head, new pistons and rings, etc etc.

oh and ive mooved the number plate to the left to "un-block/cover" the rad vent.

i keep hearing stories about these things frying themselves or setting on fire. so i thouhgt id try and aid the cooling system every llittle way i can. ive noticed the oil cooler kits for around 120 quid. would this be a worthwhile adition for engine longevity?

Not worth getting an oil cooler unless you plan on doing trackdays. If you do get one, get a thermostatic sandwich plate so you don't over-cool the oil and do more damage than good.

yeah i saw that as a 20 pound optional extra. i think it would be best Smile i do plans on track days in future and i have to be honest i do drive it enthusiasticly when permitting. i might opt for one just for extra peice of mind at the moment. wouldnt mind an oil temp guage aswell. i have a search on sopme threads for some options myself

Yeah I did, doesn't look as bad as I thought. Just chrome and white are a strange colour choice.

Do phase 1s not have a oil temp gauge on the dash?

yeah i think it look pretty sweet. chrome goes with any colour, i liked the 205 cuz there still peugeot wheels (aftermarket futuristic sporty wheels arnt my thing). they really stand out with the chrome powder coata and are a peice of p*ss to clean.

nope i have oil presure guage. pretty usless. as youve either got pressure or you havnt. on a side note what pressure should it of been sat at whilst running?

and no its my mates, he live right next to town gate in sutton coldfield

When cold i think my oil sits somewhere between 4-5.5bar, when at temperature it tends to sit somewhere around 1.5-2bar at tickover, and rises with the revs.
