I had a black bonnet on my cherry Dt and everyone kept asking me what had happened, had I crashed it and rebuilt with secondhand parts. I think a yella bonnet would make it look more complete.

Looks spot on in the yellow Cool

Think the bonnet done yellow loooks better IMO.Wink

Did the MOT tester not say anything about the bolts holding the vent down?

Thought they might class the edges as sharp TBH.

Don't think they give a shit about stuff like that tbh, think it's more bits of trim hanging off and rusty edges of stuff.

Yes

TBH if a kid gets thrown over my bonnet the last thing he'd worry about is a bolt head, it's not a leading edge either. Think they look for stuff that's going to hit a pedestrian and cut them in half kinda thing

I took my sedan to the MOT station after putting all of the necessary items back on ten minutes before I left only to see him flapping both front wings in the breeze as they were only bolted at the top! Out came the 10mm spanner after borrowing couple of bolts from the dash brackets. Who needs a secure dashboard anyway?

Laugh TBH the guy had never even seen a brake bias valve before so I doubt he was too bothered by bodywork. He asked where the bias compensator was and I pointed him to the bias valve, he just went "oh ok, does it work?" and twiddled it then passed it. Result.

Got a cheapo p3 spoiler off Tyronnster this week for the bargain price of £15 delivered. It turned up pink, presumably it was cherry at some point, but other than that in good nick. Drilled some holes in the boot lid and fixed it on with some self tappers and it sat pretty flush, though i'd have to do some trimming to get it to sit on the rubber window seal properly but no need. Another result.

Got the garage cleared out too so could park the car inside and do some painting, just blew over the bonnet, roof, scuttle panel, wiper arms and spoiler with some black single stage paint. Finish isn't perfect so think when I get money i'll get a half decent Onyx Black P3 bonnet and redo the roof and spoiler, this single stage stuff is crap for buffing so i've given up on it. Already decided it's all getting done again next year anyway in this colour:

Will do it properly though, including the door shuts and under bonnet, with basecoat/clearcoat. I actually hate single stage paint with a passion now, make a mistake and the whole panel needs sanding down again and repainting. At least with BC/CC you can sand out imperfections in the BC and throw on a heavy CC to give plenty of room to wetsand and buff if needed.

Oh and just for the lolz:

Anyway, pics now. Feels like a proper GTI again now i've a spoiler on the back, felt a bit poverty spec-ish before

Oh and this lambda sensor's now dead too, pain in the f*cking arse. Can't afford new so will have to get a second hand jobby again which will inevitably die in another 6 months. To be fair at the MOT he said it was running a bit rich so looks like it's deteriorated over the last couple of weeks and now hesitates at around 3krpm unless at WOT. More money then....

This is kinda how I'm hoping mine goes next year.

Looks FIT.
