to prove both fans work
work out which relay is 1508,
remove the relay
and bridge pins 3-5 in the socket without the relay plugged in but leave all the other relays in

you should get slow speed with the ign off

Ok so the saga continues!

Bridged the one relay (I thought whats 1508) only one fan spun, bridged the other one (clearly 1508!!) and BOTH fans spun! So at least i know i have working fans and wiring...

Checklist:

1) Working fans
2) New black 5 pin relay
3) Other 2 relays must work as when i switch them over the one fan still operates - although this isnt a 100% guarantee?

So in conclusion, if the bridging cully advised above works, does that conclude it must be the bitron thing?

double check F12 F15 and F2 fuse inside the car as that will stop the high/low speed fans working
if that is ok
your next port of call is the fan controller (bitron box) as this is the unit that controls the three fan relays and the A/c relay
it is located above the horns on the N/S inner wing
you may just have crap connections in the plug as it often gets drowned under the wheel arch or it could be dead Sad

most AC on 306's is dead due to loss of pressure from coroded lower condensor pipes

1338 A1 is the unit listed for a git6, temps of 96/118 listed for it, it is listed for an XU10J2 806, so it will work, a TD one is listed at 90/101 for early models or straight 118 for later ones.

Thanks guys, sounds like I may be better off looking for the exact one rather than this one then? (Appreciate you said it would work, not clear if that was as a compromise or equally well as the actual one for a gti6?)

Incidentally I've looked at the connectors on my bitron one and they were all fine bar one which was totally covered in white crusty stuff. I've cleaned it and tried unplugging the brown plug but no avail...

I have also bridged the one relay to check and both fans definitely spin up, there's nothing else bar the bitron I should now be suspecting is there?

If someone can confirm if that box above is ok I'll buy it ASAP for sure :-)

The lugs line up on the two boxes but that could just be the design is the same. Yours looks like a Ph3, which is what this came off.

I think mine is a 2.5, cully/welsh either of you have any idea if it would be a feasible replacement?

Dan, how much do you want for it posted? (The one above on eBay was £14 as a point of ref but they do vary..)

Cheers
