Hi guys,

Sorry for all of the questions,

I've started to give the car some beans now and I've noticed when really pressing on the temp hovers around 80 but in traffic today it shot well towards 100 and smelled hot..

It's got a Nissens rad and i think I can see one small fan through the bumper however it's generally running hot unless travelling a speed.

It's also got an oil cooler but it's not plumbed in right now, (I have fittings)

So as a track car it needs to run cool and I do intend to drive it on the road sometimes too, so what do you recommend to improve this?! What's worked for you?

How hot is hot? The second fan doesn't kick in till 97 (IIRC) but it looks like it is going to boil over. Is it a GTi6 or Rallye?

Aye sounds right. Also you dont wanna run cool. You need to run at what peugeot designed it to run at which i think is 88ish

Mine gets over 90 in stop-start clutch in-out traffic in summer, this is normal. Does it go anywhere near the red zone on the gauge? If not it is OK. A correct coolant mix does not boil until over 100 dec C anyway.

Does the fan come on? Let it idle until it gets close to 100. If it doesn't come on then, get it sorted.

That's great thanks guys, it's a partially stripped gti-6 rather than a Rallye, temp wise that sounds ok then which is pretty reassuring!

Is it worth installing the oil cooler pipe work given that the rad is already fitted? (Mocal I believe)

I can't see a second fan through the bumper, should there be one?!

Mine does the same ...did change the Thermostat to a genuine peugeot 6 one & flushed the system through with a hose with the thermostat out...
Used new coolant & water mix ....did help a bit ...no major change noticed untiil I rant it at Castle Coombe & it did help Thumbs up

Mine isnt track but same issue. Rns normal but hit traffics and boom shoots up.found the issue being that my fans don't actually come on. Have you run yous up to temp then got out to let it warm up more and see if your fans actually come on?

Unplug the brown sensor on the thermostat to check fans work

The fans should come on at low speed for a few seconds and then switch to max. I have an oil cooler, but I'd only run one if you have a thermostatic sandwich plate. This ensures it warns up as normal. My oil ran at 92ish degrees on Prescott hill this year when the last 3 years I got the oil to 130. So its well worth plumbing it in.

Yep I defo have a sandwich plate so I'll do that. It appears to only use push fit fittings?!

I'll check the fans today as I'm very conscious i don't think it comes on. I noticed today even in cooler weather it's running at aroun 70-80 on the move but 100 when stationary

The 1 stage of the fans kicks in at 97. It should bring the water temp down to 90 and switch the fans off. Then the pattern repeats. If it goes above where your at, you need to look into why. Does your temp ever come back down to 90ish stationary?
Push fittings? How very strange. Should be okay though. I knew you would have a sandwich plate as tats where the hoses plumb in. But I'm recommending a sandwich plate with a thermostat as it won't take any longer to warm up in the mornings.

Is your a rallye? If so you will only run 1 fan and not have the brown sensor on the thermostat housing. It will have relays behind the grill iirc.

it was advertised as a gti 6 - rallye, however it has electric windows etc so i believe that means its just a gti6

Its had a million different bits put on it by various people over the years so it wouldnt surprise me if its a bit of a mish mash of parts....

Be very careful driving the car without working fans, it only has to overheat a bit a few times and you can induce HG failure.

So the fan works! It just came on but the dial is hilariously inaccurate, reading about 105 before it kicked in - immediately pulling temp down to 90 - I can relax now lol

Might not be Quite right yet. The 2nd stage of the fans where they run at full speed is at 110 degrees. You probably hit that one. Did you pull the brown sensor to check to see if they both work on slow speed? Also, hard wire the ac button to manually switch the fans on. Wink

I'm almost certain I only have 1 fan?!

How hard is it to hard wire the button, I like the idea as aircon is duff like most lol

Is it a rallye?
As I understand it, non-aircon models only have one fan, which has a high speed and low speed setting, sure someone will confirm.

Do you have the ac button and associated bits under the bonnet? If so, you should have the twin fan set up. Do you have the brown sensor on the thermostat?


It's easy, disconnect the compressor, there's plug you have to bridge 2 terminals. Check the faq section. There's a decent guide in there for it.

if it has AC you should have two fans
slow speed is two fans in series fast speed is two in parrellel

if one is missing you wont get slow speed!
