i have a gti6 catalytic honeycomb and i wondered if anyone had some advice on platinum removal, or if there any in there to begin with.my general idea was smash it up into powder, pan this powder so the heavy metal sinks to the bottom. collect it, then heat the s**t out of the platinum dust with my hho welder. and hopefully ill have a blob of platinum. thoughts comments ideas???? cheers jim ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

There's between 3-7 grams in a cat dependant on size ect. Platinum is wort about £30 per gram. I agree its not worth the hassle, just run the whole cat in as scrap |

30 a grams still worth it. even if i only get 1gram.what i find annoying is if i had put a post up here called "im throwing away money" youd all call me mad and likewise tell me to lay off the reefer ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |

There's more than just platinum in a cat, better off just flogging it to a scrapyard. If it's not a genuine one ther'll be f**k all in it anyway________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Half cages right up to complete custom spaceframes - MSA/FIA spec, CDS, ROPT, T45, etc - PM meEmail me! Custom-made polybushes available - need an odd size or fitment? - anything from batch work to one-off pieces. |

don't waste your time. trust me i'm a nitro technologist. I do in depth work with platinium and other heavy metals all day, on the same site we also make and develop cats. there are many other metals in there and the pt is very low grade,and yes you are rite because of the catalyst reaction the chemicals are dangerous. also to melt pt you need 2600'c and other things like cholrine, you also can not sell a lump of pt as the metal has a make distinct as a barcode, hatton garden will not take it from you.a small insight into what I do.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEwIovzQlaM http://www.noble.matthey.com/index.asp p.s please excuse my spelling ive just got in ffrom a 300mile drive,im shattered ________________________________________ white rallyecherry dead rallye s16 |

If there is any Rh in there he'll need an EBM (electron beam melter) about 1million each. Also an xrf/xrd gun to analyse to pea size piece to determine the% of each metal in the alloy for proof of sale. electron beam melter?thats just a fancy direct heat source. granted i dont have one. or a vacum generater to work in an oxygen free environment. but my hho welder does burn at around 3500 deg c. shame about the proof part, look like i will just have to have a lump of unrefined platinum lying about for the fun of it ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |
