Do you run the car without a cambelt cover?

I asked at Tony Law Exhausts (who made the original btcc manifolds) when I had my exhaust done why they weren't clamped together and they said that race manifolds aren't clamped together as quite often the engine and exhausts are solid mounted. Because of this they need movement between the sections to allow for expansion and contraction with the heat and also to allow for the vibration of been bolted to the engine. If it were all one section the manifold would fracture because of the vibration. It does also make it easy to remove the manifold from the engine without taking the engine out!

Great project that I've somehow managed to completely miss until now. Look forward to seeing the power figures.

If anything I'd say being a track only car means it's more in need of a belt cover, where you could find accident debris on the track just as likely, if not more so than on the road. Especially in gravel traps! Though you can count them on 2 hands, every race team I've worked with or observed myself has insisted on some sort of cover or guard for the cam belt as the weight saving really isn't worth the consequences of something going wrong.... I say every team... Except one. Ours! But then that's only because we couldn't get one to fit around the mounts to the formula Renault and no-one wanted to make one fit, so the driver was under strict instruction to cut the engine and keep it that way until we'd inspected it should he venture near any gravel traps!

I would have told him to stop going in the gravel traps.

LOL Fortunately while I was around he never went into one... More often than not because something else on the car broke before it got that far!

Well part 1 of the mapping complete, Power figures will follow but happy with the torque at 185 ft lb's at 6000rpm, Limiter is at 8500 so she does go well now, just some different parts to try, trumpets, Injector position, Cam timing to go for the power but it will get me out for next weekend which is the main thing after so many years

Test day Sunday so I'll see how it goes then, As over the winter a steel crank will be fitted and some more work, Maybe different cams again to nude the 300bhp mark, Will be able to go over 9000 rpm then.

See's getting polished up by a mate on Thursday
