After reading the various posts on here I am still undecided. Is there really that big a difference?

Just keep spending since starting to do the suspension work and it's just where to stop!!

They do make a big difference mate, a lot more planted and more confidence inspiring, chuck the car round a bend and you will know you have made the right decision

I can't really comment on which is better in terms of handling as I replaced 13 year old mounts with solid ones, I can say mine feels very planted now and there was no decrease in the ride comfort from fitting them.

as said solid mounts do make it feel more planted and less floaty at the back, depends what you like but they do make it sound like you have a boot full of coconuts on a bumpy road

I removed my solid mounts, I have had them on 2 different 6's, one set fitted on an old beam, the other on fully rebuilt one. Both times the beam started dying after 15k mikes. Now, this may be coinsidence or it may be down to stresses normally absorbed by the rubber getting directed to the flimsey bearings. I now have oem rubber ones fitted as I cant afford to keep doing beam rebuilds. Yes, the car feels more planted on solids but im not so sure it is as when you get the corner right with the rubber ones it flies round. It is however more of a handfull. I personally like them now, it has made the car more fun due to its slightly unsettled feel. If yours is mainly a track car id go solids, but, if its a road car stick with oem ones. Smile

^^ This

Also in my experience, doing this does not cause premature beam wear. It does however transform the car and gives the rear of car so much more stability. I am sure this could be achieved with the standard mounts for a short while, but then of course they start to wear and you will need to renew them to restore the handling. With solids, they don't wear out once fitted. Thumbs up

Maybe, but for the miles my car does, not worth the risk for me... My bird would kill me if I needed another beam.

Will probably pop down mate, as long as the weather is ok. (Which incidently you never can tell at this place, one minute its 30°c and the next the track is a washout)
