is there such a thing as a higher quality or longer lasting wheel bearing in a fitment that suits the 306? Big wheeels, slicks and high temps from brakes do seem to take a hefty toll on their lifespan. Has anyone on here found something a bit better for the job?

No, they don't. Not once you start putting serious load, heat and bigger wheels on.

you still get a good few races out of a set. Just use genuine they are the best you will find unless you want some custom ones.

Paul fitted new front bearings when he built the car and one is shot already, he drove the car a few thousand miles and did one short test day so they must take a hammering. I wonder if GKN do something.

Trust me, you never got them as hot as I do. Plus road tyres dont transmit anything like the load slicks do. I'll chaeck the make next time I have the hubs off.

There's a lathe main spindle bearing that's a straight fit for the TU units, it's what I've got in mine.
IIRC there was one that was the same for the XU bearings too, although quite expensive.
Local bearing shop and see what they can get hold of.

i would suggest looking at a better bearing grease than the bearing itself. Smile

No harm in uprating the bearing of course.

Is it really that much of an issue? Surely Russian guy would be murdering a hub bearing every track day if so?

I noticed mine were shot after relatively few trackdays and one of the new bearings on the car I have just got is gone too after very little use. I will see what it's like with bigger discs and ally bells hopefully heat won't soak into the hub so badly. But on previous trackdays with my V6 Brembos and Xantia disc setup the hubs were hot enough to burn unprotected fingers, so the grease must be getting a propper caning. Couple that to increased leverage from larger higher ofset wheels, with spacers and massively upped grip from slicks and the load on the bearing can only get worse, especially if you run kerbs on incredibly stiff springs.

My bearings seems to be ok, the current ones are on at least 2k track miles (original Peugeot with 90k road miles) Unsure

The Orbis ones I had in spare hubs failed after couple of track days...

I got warned off cheapo ones, so I went for the SNR - when you get them they're actually SKF bearings anyway (same as OEM).

Bit of a thread revival but any recommended places to get bearings from? I'm pretty sure I just got some ones from ECP on the race car a few years ago and they don't seem to be spinning too well these days!

Are Febi ones ok?

SNR are OEM.

If you can't get them then go for SKF or FAG. If they even make them
