With the request from several people I decided to start this project thread Big grin

The story began in the long 1998 when my father bought his 205 GTi and I was the one to fix it. I was always in to cars; I would say more in to what makes them work than driving! With the 205 I have learned a lot about Peugeots, so when it came to buying my first car I bought a 405 as I knew how to fix it. After saving some money I started to look for a nice 205 GTi, but just could not see anything that I liked at the time. So I thought: why not have a look at 306 GTi and Rallye? After a few years of Peugeots, I knew that the less stuff they had the less there was to break! Rallye was the natural choice! Wink

So in June 2004 I have acquired my Rallye completely standard with just 35k miles on the clock Smile

Things were kind of quiet for a while, until autumn of 2006 when I split with my girlfriend at the time and suddenly found the presence of free time and some disposable income. After reading on this forum how wonderful track days were, I decided to give it ago and went to Snetterton for a track driving course. I had a great time, understood that I cant drive and had a lot to learn! So it was a new challenge: learn to drive on a race track and figure out how to make the car a bit more suitable for it Doh

The result been what we have now:

Engine
- Kent PT81 cams
- Pocketed pistons
- Re-mapped standard ECU
- Homemade induction kit
- Lightened flywheel
- Blue Flame exhaust with Magnex decat

Suspension
- BAD dual spring 3-Way adjustable coilovers, 650lb main springs
- My own design solid top mounts with 2deg of extra castor and 1-4deg of adjustable camber
- Roller bearing wishbone bushes
- BAD 3-Way adjustable rear dampers
- 25mm torsion bars
- 30mm antiroll bar
- Solid rear beam mounts
- Negative camber trailing arms

Brakes
- AP Racing 295mm fronts with Carbotech XP10 pads
- Standard rear

Transmission
- KAAZ LSD diff
- Push type MI16 clutch

Wheels
- Various 15x7 with Slicks / Semi Slicks / Wets / Road tyres

Interior
- SD 6 point cage with extra mounts for A & B pillars
- Bucket seats with harnesses

Ill update the tread as I have time and try to summarise the slow transformation of my car and the things that I learned in the process.

Denis

This is the best prepared 306 trackday car I've seen and shows what can be done with near-standard power. A real giant-killer it was a match for an Exige SC and Evo 320 at Snetterton!

Well said Ash Yes

This car is my inspiration for turning my gti6 into a track toy. Denis really shows thats its not just power you need to get good lap times on trackdays.

Keep the updates coming mate, will enjoy reading this Hyper

Hi Dennis, anychance of a pic of your slam panle to see roughly where you have mount your bonnet pins, also, is your bonnet single or double skin mate?

The monster has its own project thread at last! Cheers

It's funny, I remember going to trackdays back when we were in pretty much standard cars. Gradually, as we did more and more days, the honing and the adjustments started.. somewhere along the line it turned into a kind of arms race - one that I certainly have no hope of winning LOL

Denis has developed this into a real track weapon, a terrific car Cool

As most have said unreal car and driver.

Denis took me out in the car and i have to say i was scared how well it went around corners and stopped.

Put mine to shame, then again i suppose you need to know how to drive them too.

Carl

Like this a lot. Reminds me of my 205 a little actually as I've also tried to focus on handling and budget rapidness round a circuit.

Interested in the black art designs coilovers after seeing a reference to them in trc magazine I think it was. How are you finding them?

Do not yet have a picture of the bonnet pins. I drilled the holes for the pins in place of outside fixing for the grill and made the grill to fit over the pins – will get the picture later. The bonnet is single skin – no problems with flex.

Thanks for kind words everyone Blush

Special thanks to Ash for encouragement and input in the development!

I am actually still surprised, every time I drive it, by what the car is capable of...

I would not say that it became a bit of an arms race (well may to some extent) - more the case of changing parts that limit how fast it can go and making it able to survive continuous track use. I kind of got to doing 40min sessions in the dry, on slicks No angel

As for Black Art coilovers – Love The car rides better than standard over small bumps, not so good over bigger stuff due to stiff springs. I’ll discuss it in details a bit later.

Have you done anything to reduce oil surge now you have dramatically increased grip levels?

I only say this as my ZX has an oil pressure sensor as standard equipment, and on standard springs konis and Michelin road tyres I see surge without trying too hard at all Shock

(It runs an RFS engine like yours, similar modified pistons, PH2 inlet but not mapped yet)

No, I just run oil cooler and Millers 10-60 oil. My original engine done something like 3k track miles and was OK. Then changed it for the current one from Martin, not sure how many track days he did but we already put over 1k of track miles between myself and Ash.

Easily a match for my Evo at Oulton. Probably running in the region of 330+bhp and I wasn't pulling away on the straights, as Denis could carry so much speed through the bends. Must have had 5 or 6 laps of lapping within a few seconds of each other, until my brakes gave up Laugh

Update:
Started a new job at the beginning of December Big grin, so been busy learning new stuff and have not yet got around to writing things up.

Just done a track day at Brands with Ash: 190 miles / 160 laps / 75L of petrol / 11mpg.
Looking through the video, we both did similar lap times with lows of 56.8sec Hyper

No failures, no problems, no oil use, no brake fade and very little tyre wear (slicks)! The only car that I couldn't catch was a race E46 M3 but it was less than a second slower. There was a rude sounding std RS4 which was 1-2 secs per lap slower than us!

Laugh

I'd say it's more international than that - the brown moccasin is a famously fast choice of footwear. Cool
