Pack your helmet when you do go and ask Dennis to take you out for a few pax laps, this car is one serious bit of kit! The driver is awesome too but every time I get in that car I get out with a bigger smile on my face than the previous time..... Dennis has created a masterpiece IMO! Cool

Blush Not so sure about the driver, but somehow the car worked out quite good!

Have not done much to the car recently, just driving it. After buying a welder in the summer been practicing welding and made myself a strut brace:

I could not make it to the track day at Oulton Park in October as Ash was racing the next day there were lots of jobs to finish on the car before the last race of the season. He did win his class in the QMN championship and finish just 2 points away from overall win!

I was very eager to take my car out to the track again and at the last moment booked a track day at Snetterton this Tuesday. The day started sunny but the track was soaking wet and only dried for slicks after lunch. Track side photographer managed to capture what happens when you go a little bit too quickly on cold slicks:

I like that strut brace, more robust and better engineered than OMP, E-Tech etc.

I am still around and have the car. Doing loads on it at the moment, so let’s bring the thread up to date Smile

2012 Nov

Exhaust was making screeching sounds, so decided to investigate: the centre box broke up on the inside. Have replaced perforated pipe for a new one and added a gusset to stop it happening again.

2013 July

Seam welded and reinforced the subframe (instead of using a bolt-on brace as did not want to compromise the ground clearance). Was surprised by how much more solid the front end felt after doing it.

In the summer of 2013 went to Castle Combe – the head gasket went resulting in high-speed spin and a trip back to Cambridge on a recovery lorry.

Cylinder head was cleaned-up, which resulted in issues later on.

I had Piper PB285h and Kent PT81 cams, so thought that would to interesting to compare the profiles (only done for inlet).

Calculating area under the curve: standard = 100%, Piper 118%, Kent 123%

Another observation is about how the key-ways are cut. Piper cams are very close to required timing and require minimum advance. While you have to rotate Kent a lot more. (In both cases you have to get a dial gage and timing wheel to get them right.)

After replacing the head gasket - I took the car for a track day. Unfortunately, midway through the day some smoke started to appear from the catch tank. So, suspecting that it is the bottom end issue – done compression test at home. One of the cylinders was showing only 60psi.
Head off to find a melted piston and piston to valve contact.

Investigating it further – this happened due to the cylinder head been skimmed too much.

Inspected the cylinder bock to find a lot of bore wear and some cracks around cylinder head bolt hols. So, decision was to bin this block and get a standard engine to make the car usable again.

2014-15

After buying a house (AKA borrowing lots of money) – I’ve had a lot less time to do any work on the car.

Rallye at its new home:

Before selling my last set of standard alloys, thought to check if they fit over AP 3307 295mm brakes. They do without spacers!

With the car been mainly used on the road – I have softened the suspension: torsion bars 25->21mm and main sprints 650->400lb
