Well it's update time again......Decided to make a start on the head today I've been looking in the cellar for my valve spring compressor with no joy, I ended up at Halfrauds having to fork out £50 for a new one It's a piece of p*ss to use once you have set the amount of compression correctly. Each time I took a valve out I had a look to make sure there was nothing bent or damaged & then like a good lad I bagged each assembly up together so nothing could get mixed up or lost The valve stem oil seals came off easily with some snipe nosed pliers, must remember to get new ones as the removal fecks them up. Once all the valves were out I had chance to attach my maniflow exhaust manifold & have a feel how good the match was between the exhaust ports & the manifold. The manifold ports were comfortably bigger than ports in the head so I knew I could safely do a little bit of porting. I've ported heads before, the first one I did was a Mini Cooper S head probably before most of you were born. I was very inexperienced then & went at it like a bull in a china shop, I spent approx 30 hours on it & just as I was finishing off the last port I broke through into an oilway so head scrap.... That was very expensive to replace at the time as there was no such thing as Ebay to rely on. Anyway now when I port a head I just look to remove casting imperfections & lumps & bumps that could disrupt gas flow, I tend not to care what it looks like as long as it feels good. The exhaust ports had a few areas that needed a bit of attention, there is a casting line all the way around the middle of the port & there is a lump in the middle top & bottom that could go too as well as a few mismatches further inside the port. Before After Side by side Although the inlet ports were quite rough there was not much that needed doing apart from getting rid of a few minor lumps & a step on the corner of the valve seats. Before After A little bit of tarting up in the combustion chamber Before After Job done, only 3 more to do, I've now run out of emery drums for the Dremil & B&Q shut at 4pm so the other 3 will have to wait until next week. On a lighter note when I went to Halfrauds to get the valve spring compressor there were about 4 of their spotty oiks stood round the till generally tossing it off so I asked them all if they stocked valve lapping paste, they all shrugged their shoulders and one said "what's it for, bodywork?" FFS!!!! ________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

Down to a jewelers/repair shop and get some carbide polishing paste, most of 'em will stock it, or a diamond variant. Silicon Carbide (the pink ones) grinding wheels work a lot faster on the dremel too.... ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. They do sell it, along with a grinding stick (aka bit of balsa wood with a sucker on the end). It even comes with 2 grades of grinding paste! For what it costs might be worth getting the head and valves on a Serdi machine and cut to match. ________________________________________ Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 1Oulton Park in a BTCC 306 vid 2 Lap of the 'ring |

I ended up getting some from Abduls & a couple of sticks.TBH the valves will need minimal lapping, there probably the best I've ever seen. I'll just give them a light going over.

Update time again.Finished off porting the head today, here is a pic of the casting line that runs all the way around the middle of the exhaust ports I couldn't bring myself to start lapping the valves in so I modified the Ancillaries bracket so that it would accept the supercharger mount. I know in Richw's instructions it says use a grinder but I'm an old school engineer & decided to do it the hard way!!! I was quite shocked at how p*ss poor the casting was with loads of flash all over the show so I set about tidying it up, here is the finished article Trial fitted onto my spare block I'll take it for sandblasting this week ________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

Been doing a bit of shopping, I found a rosejointed gearlinkage that does away with the greasy ball jobbie on eBay being sold by Miles off here. I watched it fof a few days & stayed up till 12.45am to put a last second bid on it & got it for £---, bargain. It arrived today & quietly away looks a tidy bit of kit!! I got sick of doing 17 second quarter miles because the gear linkage had popped off going into second so fingers crossed this will stop it happening again ________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

Must be why mine does 17 seconds ¼ miles, dodgy gearlinkage, I'd better check it ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. wonder where I can get a spherical joint like that one .shouldn't be hard to make it fit, is it held in the tube bit by anything other than the linkages? ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

It's bolted to the angled bit & the bearing just slides in the bore. There is quite a bit of work gone on to make this thing, if you want me to post some better pics just shout up________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

wouldn't mind if you could just considering a way to sort the worn rubber ball as you mentioned, the rest is in fair condition, and the brass Top hat bushes are very cheap from pug. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
