Well here is an update, decided to take the block to be bored out this morning, first I thought I'd make sure the wossners were to big to fit as I know it's been rebored before & guess what... They p*ssed inDoh
I tried a ring in a bore & the gap at the split line was 0.53mm, I rang Nick at Lynx (richw is out of the country) & he confirmed that the gap was too big!!!!
Nick is a very very helpful chap & he offered to sort me a replacement block out but Puglover has come to my rescue as he has a spare I can have.
If anyone wants a block complete with 86.565 pistons & rods please drop me a pm!

Now I know I have a valvespring compressor somewhere I just need to find the bugger so I can make a start on the head..

Cool

PM Ash on here. A while back I sold him the block from my old car, but turned out to have some bore damage. Wouldnt be a problem if it was to be bored out.

Fingers crossed I'm now sorted, just been to puglovers & collected the block (cheers John)
The block looks in very good condition under all the oil, it's painted very dark green & the core plugs look like new. Let's hope that when I try a piston in it in the morning that doesn't p*ss in too!

Thanks for the offers of help lads! Much appreciated!!!!

I don't think it will be finished this year purely due to finances, there's probably another £2k to spend on it yet.
Engine rebuild £700
LSD £650
Injectors £150
Windscreen £150
Perspex windows £400
Fibreglass bonnet & boot £300
Kevlar front wings £300
New front rotors £250
Brake lines £200
Fuel lines £150
Bucket seat £450
Powder coating £150
Remap £600
Respray £700
Bung for mot tester 1 bacon butty
Rear shocks off Phillipm £450

Does'nt want to be too smooth, the is a scale for roughness or RA that dictates the surface finish. When viewed under a microscope a good deck finish would have a uniform 'sawtooth' pattern that helps it 'key' into the gasket material. It's too smooth to see with the naked eye but it's there all the same. The same thing is important for bores for oil retention, polished bores give shite ring seal, blow-by, poor power and smoke like hell.

Unfortunately most head/block skimming shops these days struggle to get even the smoothness required for a MLS gasket in the first place, n'mind getting it too smooth LOL

Jean Luc have you heard of C&A landrovers? The firm does all their machining & for most of the garages in east Lancashire. They are the experts so I'll leave finishes etc to them. It was a nice change to go into a machine shop without a CNC machine in sight & all the guys in there were well over 40!!

Cool
