Well we have finally had the car on track!
Managed to get a couple of hours at the local Teesside Autodrome track as part of a testing session. We pretty much had the track to ourselves with the exception of one other car for about an hour. This made it much easier to 'shake down' the car without working about other cars running into the back of us.

Everything went very well only 1 problem which was a small oil leak on the oil cooler - quick tightening of the joint and all was good again!

Managed to do about 40 miles of varied driving which is a good start to the engine run in.
As you will see from the photos we have completed a few more jobs before we went to the track (sun strip, mesh in front of the oil cooler & some logo's.)

Here are a few photos to enjoy!

On the back of the car there is a QR tag:

Thought I'd better add some photos from our last track day which was at Croft last year.

Bought some of these Toyo R1R tyres and fit them to my freshly powder coated wheels

Getting ready

And our latest driver was ready for the off...

Some cars that didn't have a great day.

Yes the Astra went off the track and into the ploughed field causing the car to go onto its roof. Lucky the driver was not hurt given the damage to the car.
To make things worse I was told he did not have track insurance for the day Sad

To be fair I don't know any one who buys track insurance for a day! But then if ur tracking an expensive car I think you should possibly look into it, and always drive within ur limits! The latter comment though I find tends to cause most problems, people turn up on track with a fast car... Think they're Lewis Hamilton then wonder why they stack it! Roll eyes

Bought a new Jetex exhaust and fitted it this weekend. Now my ears do not bleed when I am in the car!!

This system is much quieter than the Magnex one it replaced, just need to get a noise meter on it to see what db's it is producing.

Next job is to fit some new brake pads.

Stu may i ask where you got your Jetex from and how much it cost you? How is the fitting of the system?
Also how do you find the R1R's?

I bought the jetex exhaust from a local company called Turbopacs and it cost £299.
Fitting was easy, only slightly tricky part was the centre rubber.
The R1R's were very good and worked well in the cooler/wet conditions. I'm going to get a set of 888's for the drier track days.

Fitted the last few things ready for Croft in a few weeks time.

New front brake pads (DS2500) & new rear brake pads (M1144)

Low oil pressure light fitted (20psi)

Toyo R888 tyres fitted to the C5 alloys (don't think they will stay white for very long!)
Weight of the Cyclones with tyres = 17.1kg each
Weight of the C5 with tyres = 13.6kg each
(The tyre fitted could not believe how light the alloys were)

Just need some sunny weather...

20 psi low oil alert is too low, by the time it goes off and you react the damage will be done. You want something that lights up at idle but goes out as soon as you lift the revs, say around 40 psi. I believe 50 psi is where a healthy engine should be, much below that your oil is either too hot and thinning out dangerously or you're suffering from oil starvation.

Yes Croft was great fun on Good Friday, car was handling well and no issues (for a change). I cannot remember seeing any other 306's there, were you out on track in something else or just watching?
Some seriously nice cars on that track day!

Good point about the 20psi, I will look into that (need to remove it anyway as there is a small amount of oil leaking from the t-piece).

That astra had a bit too much fun! Car looks a bit strange but clearly youve gone to some efforts over the years.

After quite a while of having fun with the car we have started making a few more modifications.
The main one has been fitting the adjustable top mounts to get some negative camber. Also fitted new powder coated hubs and wheel bearings (Shot blasting and powder coating done by my friend at AI Sprays - excellent work as usual). Change the oil pressure sensor for a 40 psi one. Moved the washer bottle to the back of the car making more space for future mods...

Started to order/collect parts for a low boost supercharger setup. Hope to start work over the winter.

Yes it's good to start working on it again.
I'm at Croft on Saturday if you are around.

Engine is standard apart from the induction kit and lightened flywheel. It was rebuilt as part of the project, but just used like for like parts.

Croft 25/07/15 Javelin Track Day
Open pit lane, max 105db

Time to test the negative camber and scare a few passengers!
The original weather forecast was for heavy rain in the afternoon, however the weather turned out to be nice and sunny (the heavy rain only started when we left the track - good timing)

Overall the day was a success with nothing breaking and the suspension working great.

Lots of nice cars on track and relatively few incidents with only 4 red flags (all of which occurred when it was Adrian's turn behind the wheel).

Here are some photos to enjoy...

All going to plan the next track day will be in August.
