getting stuck at junctions or in traffic trying to get the bloody thing in gear.

Reverse Grinds unless you are ultra slow with moving it into gear

You can feel the cog's meshing as you try to get it into gear when playing up

Also bite point on clutch bite point moves by about an inch is also very very heavy

The only other thought I had was how thick is your plate on the repair (mine is also plated) as the 6mm differance in engine mount hight on only one side might be causing this

So we're basically suffering from some savage clutch drag when it all starts playing up.

I can't remember what they have done to repair it- pretty sure there was just a load of weld in the cradle Wink

Nope, won't go into any gears at all.

It does have varying degrees of f*cked - sometimes it's barable, ie its just about useable and then other times, like the other day when i was in traffic in Bristol, i was totally f*cked and couldnt get it into any gear after the lights went green. Had to turn the car off, put it in first, turn car on and instantly the car was trying to stall/pull away when the clutch was depressed Crazy

Other times when its in its less f*cked mood: you feel it playing up a bit (ie gears getting a bit notchy, biting point drop) and try put it in reverse to park and it wont go in - just makes an awful cog on cog grind as you try get it in. Wink

Im getting so p*ssed with it now to be honest

Have you got any history/evidence of it possibly being in a front end shunt before?

I was going to try spacing my gearbox mount up by the thickness of repair in the top engine mount cradle but now thinking about it it might be better to space to top mount down slightly to get the engine it exactly the right position

I mean if a mount with a few MM of play can cause this surely moving the engine by a few MM when repairing the mount will have the same effect.

have a good look at your top mount bet its at least a few MM higher than it would have been out the factory.

It may be cause the engine is sitting those few MM higher in the bay the exhaust is too close to the Cable or linkages causing them to be affected by heat soak or just mean they arn't aligned perfectly?

Is you exhaust Standard does it still have all the original heat sheilds in place?

ok freind of mine got similar with a decat on his XSI after he had removed the heat sheilds heat soak melted the rubber Ball thingy on the L shaped linkage giving him all kinds of weird selector problems (but im guessing you have replaced this already?)

I would aim for Bulkhead to top engine mount bolt to check its not skewed in the bay

then put something flat across the top of the engine mount cradle and measure down to the mount arm from engine

you could also check the engine tilt angle in the bay if you had a spirit level.

You might be able to run a string across the bay from the wing bolt holes to give you a straight line to see if the engine is sat square

did you have gear problems before you fitted the engine mounts?

reseat the engine and gearbox - undo the top engine mount and the gearbox mount. use wood under the engine to jack it up and reposition it.

it could also be the rubber ball in the gear selection lever which has worn down.

When your next out and about on a duel carridge way pop it in to 6th and keep your hand on the stick try letting off the power and putting it back on Quite aggresivly at around 4/5k rpm see if your getting any movement

transmitted through the gear stick that would indicate movement else where most likely engine or subframe

what so if the gear stick jerks in a certain direction when i floor it?

i'm pretty certain there's zero movement in the whole engine bay as every mount is new and group N.

same here Smile found pumping the clutch pedal right to the floor some times helps although it may just be the HULK rage forcing it into gear to save from embarresment LOl

Yeh, pumping the clutch doesn't really help.

But when you can't get it into gear and the traffics starting to pull away i find that as i'm trying to force it into a gear you feel something gear linkage related bending Crazy LOL
