Hi,

I had a look at Dave's car and was a bit wary of how he had changed his cage to pick up on his box beam that the trailing arms pivot from. I am also very wary of the K37 business and its references to changing the original suspension mounting points, and where that will leave you if you have put in coilover towers on the rear, be it a 306 or a MK II - it is difficult to guess where the MSA will stop and it just seems its not worth pushing the boundaries of development until they have made their minds up for now! (if that is possible).

Dave has got massive amounts of money in his car, I should imagine his engine rebuild was over

I do know what you mean, though I havent had the chance to look at Dave's car very closely at all, closest I;ve been so far is on the pit straight at rockingham a few weekends ago when he came screaming past!

I service for 2 guys who are based Windsor/west London way, and do some marshalling Smile

Would love to have a go at competing but I haven't the income to do it (no income at all currently!)

also worth a look at re-rear suspension, Colin satchell does a setup that retains the standard pickup points.

I think the escorts get away with it as the turrets were homologated on the works cars back in the 70's!

Hi,

Have seen the rear coilover set up that you are referring to, on Alan Dixon's project thread, and it is very interesting. It has me thinking about something that would see the top mount moved up into the void above the rear arm of the body mount of the beam, something to think about when I have a bit more time!

Hi Pedro,

Do you mean driveshafts? Transmission is what we would refer to the gearbox as, which is a be3/6 on my car. I am doing some work at the moment to try and determine which drive shafts were used on my car, they are part of the kit that dimma market for the car and are the ones that were on my car when I originally purchased it.

I will let you know when I have found out which shafts they are.

Your project looks interesting, let me know if you want any information that would be of help with your car.

Martin

The driveshafts dimma use are a mystery, i'd be interested to know what they are. Although luckily mine are ok at the moment.

there's likely to be plenty of places in Europe you can buy them, KRS is one place for certain.

Hi Wayne,

If you didn't want to sound like a sad f*cker, you could have said that you had 'just got in from a cool sounding club and were surfing.....'

I can't argue with your assessment of those hub spacers, and dread to think how heavy they would be. They look a bit crude and don't look anything like 3cm wide, I guess their quoted 3cm might be overall track increase for both sides.

That site is one I have on my favourites as they seem to gather up lots on interesting parts from places in france, and hence there is a interesting range of things popping up on there - some though are scary looking.

Enjoy a very long SaturDAY,

Martin

Quick update.....I picked the car up last night after its gearbox swap and the diff is making a horrible noise with Syn5 oil in the box - will be swapped out to Kaaz oil tomorrow will see if that solves things or if there is something more sinister happening inside.

That aside, the box is phenominal with six really useable gears now, the gearing in the standard box is too high for the rallies that I do, with even the fast wide open events only seeing the first four gears being used. The new box now runs out at 120mph in sixth at the red line - it has transformed how the car feels, and made an already hideously loud car worse as it is pulling just over 4000rpm at 70 on the motorway.

The head had a very light skim, coupled with a new head gasket and all seems well on the water side of things now, and the engine is back on top form, once the gear oil has been change I will be able to put some miles on it to make sure everything is sorted out now - will be making use of my road headsets with my ipod plugged into the other side of the intercom for that!

The gearbox swap was not cheap, but it has just transformed the car, shame that the six speed box is so poorly supported in terms of being able to swap out the final drive.....

Martin
