Hi Everyone,

I was just browsing the Hi Flow Heads' website (don't throw stones on me! LOL ) And I clicked on their parts list for the Xsara VTS / GTI6 .

clickee

And I found this:

Turbo/Supercharged components Huh?

They offer a supercharger kit for 1250 GBP Blink
they say this include :
-Eaton supercharger
-mounting plate
-belt / belt tensioner kit
-modified inlet manifold

I don't really know, but this seems a little cheap for me, compared to that awsome kit Rich sells.

Anyway I'm gonna email them to ask for some more details and some pictures!

So what do you generally think?

Yours,

Tibi

Sounds like they're maybe using Mini cooper S chargers, cheap and readily available and making bits to fit them, just a guess really. Some interesting products on there but wouldn't let hi-flow anywhere near my engine.

Those chargers are not very efficient produce a lot of heat and not much boost. Centrifugal types are superior in pretty much every area bar cost!

I must admit i would love one of your kits fitting Rich, i/we could afford it, but not that she wares the trousersLOL i would be hard pushed to justify spending £4000 on a 10 year old car?Unsure

Can't see the website.

I think the Eaton is a roots type charger so will give a good low down punch but thats about it really, as said before they produce allot of heat and so arn't very efficient.

I have a brand new Eaton charger off a Mini Cooper S sat in my garage but havn't found a use for it yet.

no no no and again! NO! I won't!

The supercharger kit for me is the one Rich makes! , But as I don't want to spend that much on a 10 year old car - just mentioned - I will stick with the pictures of it! LOL

Which Eaton is it?
If's the one off the Mini it'll not be worth putting it on, they top out at ~180bhp anyway.

Off topic, but what are they using for the 6 pot brake kit that's *supposed to fit behind standard wheels?

the cooper s m45 charger can flow quite abit more than 180bhp! try close to 280bhp, reduce the pulley size with a decent intercooler to keep the inlet temps down and they cope just fine.

Surely they can't be that bad if merc and bmw use them? Wonder if they use the blower from the minis or the larger ones from certain merc kompressors? Guessing they wont be as good for traction as the rotrex, but cant imagine them being too bad with 250hp ish

If you are running an M45 anywhere near fast enough to boost a gti6 engine to 280bhp then not only is it going to destroy the bearings in short order, it's also very close to the limits of complete structural failure of the rotors, I'm sure that will be fun for you, I'd imagine similar results to a flywheel going walkies.
I know of a car using one that's putting out 250bhp, and to get that out of it he's running the charger 2krpm past the maximum rated speed for the bearings, in fact they're right on the limit of the maximum surface speed they can deal with, and has had to fit a huge intercooler to cope with the heat output, it works yes, and the torque curve looks like a tabletop, but for how long is another matter...
Even he admits if he should do it again he would have gone with an M62 and spun it slower.

280bhp from one? Only if you want to be under the bonnet with the spanners regularly.

alot of guys over on the mini forums run 250-260bhp a few close to 280bhp. i run 200 bhp with a simple pulley change. with a 17% reduce pulley on a otherwise standard m45 blower the minis can flow 280bhp with other mods(head work,cams,i/c,remap etc) this has be tried and tested for a few years now with no problems other than more frequent tyre changes. my point is the m45 seems quite capable to meet the requirements of the low boost market gti6 boys out there

A mini's Eaton supercharger has been used to supercharge an FTO on the FTO club. Thats a 2L (but granted a V6 instead of the I4 in a GTi6). Dunno the outcome yet as its awaiting a proper mapping session and rolling road.

Getting away with it and it being a long-term reliable install for someone buying an aftermarket kit are both different matters.
