Seen a few pics of this from the 'ring, wondered who's it was. Don't see whats wrong with the cage, it's as good as any bolt in cage is going to be.

Car looks cracking though, especially the nice centre console, hope to see you on a track sometime soon!

Just the mounting location at the back really, even for a bolt in it seems a strange place, roll it and the axle can tear the shell open.

That looks lovely to me, and I agree with Pete that the cage looks as good as any bolt in cage; if you wanted to make it *properly* structural then you'd need a weld in cage anyway as I'm sure you know.... after your roll I'm not surprised that you concern is mainly on safety!! Shock

I'd love to get a cage and 6 engine in my XSi as it'd be a very similar spec car then, but for now it'll have to stay on the back burner Dry

Good project mate, I like to see this sort of thing going on Thumbs up

Doh Ouch at the first pic, Big grin at the rest.

That is a sweet looking machine, nice and tidy, all go and no show - like it a lot.

Got any progress pics of the re-shell operation?

Looks a nice job to me very well prepared from the photos. Its looking at cars like yours that tempt me to fully track slag mine.

Only thing I'd change is the location of the plumbed in fire extinguisher as it would be a little vunerable in the event of an accident plus its weight overhanging the wheel base. Not a criticism really just some hindsight engineering lol.

I think you've done a superb job there.
Have you fitted my 30mm ARB to that? edit: yes I see you have. (I have a spare if anyone wants one)
I think the cage is good with proper mounts and proper door mounts, that's a Safety Devices cage, much better than OMP.
The only criticism I have is that you should fit a lighter gell battery (in the same place) and that the extinguisher would be better on the passenger side as that is the light side because of the engine/gearbox config.

The cage started life as a Safety Devices cage but as I've said I've put a lot of work in to it,I've welded plates to the shell under all the mounting points so I don't think there's much chance of it breaking out in the event of another roll.
The door cards and center consol I made myself as is the case with quite a few of the bits a bobs on the car. As you see it in the pics its not quite finished and I've re-fitted the door card over this weekend. I've still got to run the pipe from the extinguisher to the engine bay and finish off some other bits and bobs.
Fair comment about the position of the extinguisher, I wanted to put it behind the drivers seat but it would have compromised the driving position for taller drivers.
It's hard to say how much I've spent on it, I haven't really kept track, I'd say if you include

Supposed to spec the springs to keep the geometry in check based on the available tyre grip and ride height, doesn't matter about that back wheel being off the floor, the weight is still over the other side either way.

Looking at that though - I wanna track slag Sad
I've been thinking about buying a coach and stripping that Ninja

Love

Have the same base cage in mine. I like how you've tied it in to the door frames though, always struck me as a missing link in mine.
