So on Sunday I blew my engine up at Mallory Park - 3rd one in 6 months!

Therefore I'm after one that will take the abuse and not let go when I'm enjoying myself! - would have easily beat Mr Wells in his pink rallye if only that had lasted long enough also!

Running jenveys, lightened fly wheel and full spookz map, but she's still slightly under 200 bhp so must be my engine building skills, or my driving at fault! Either way- it's getting expensive and depressing changing them as often as I am!

Failing selling me the right price of kit for the job- I'm happy to build another, and any advise or parts would be welcome, head is good, it's blowing past the rings so needs a full bottom end build at the very least!

Please help me before I end up breaking it and buying a rover!

Too many revs I think- was pushing it hard, really hard, as was chasing a focus st running 280 break- out cornered him on every bend but couldn't pass him on the straights- got to 7000 in 4th half way down the straight but like a cock I held her there for a touch to long whilst looking about- smoke ensued- a lot of smoke!

step 1, stop using sPOOx.

step 2, learn that rovers are utter w**k, unless its a v8.

step 3, realise that even the newest gti6 is 15 years old, you can never expect them to last that long if you just chuck them in and give them death.

did you have different cams In it? if not, it will be nowhere near 200 bhp, 7k rpm is nothing though, stock limiter was 7450 on early ecus (though peak power was 6500 )

what exactly has failed on it?

Stop using spoox
7k should be fine on a gti6 engine
Get someone to build the engine that can do it properly
Get the mapping done by someone who can do it properly ?

My engine is completely standard internally and has put up with over 3 years of abuse running 100bhp more than standard.... decent map decent oil and oil cooler and it should take 7K all day long. The limiters not till 7650 on mine and it's been hit plenty of times.

Should definitely have an oil cooler for a track car. If not and your oil temps are getting high, that could be the problem.

have a cooler fitted- and the oil wasn't getting overly hot, I was just guessing at 7000rpm due to having no working counter at the moment- it was on the limiter I know that much, but not for long enough to expect it to die!

the engine was rebuilt using mostly pre used parts from my first two, with new bearings ect - at the time I was running short on funds but needed her running asap so it was a bit of a bodge up I guess!!

happy to take your engine if its all good eddy - what kind of miles are on it? and where abouts in the world would it be? know plenty of haulage companies so collection is no issue

why does everyone dislike spoox by the way? ive used them quite a bit during the build - as they took me on my first track day to donnington when I was trying to sell the car, as had already sold my lovely diablo one and had no love for the china I had kept- id bought this one for scrap money just because I had the space to store it!

I have never used an oil cooler on track before and never had any issues with oil temp.

Depends what you class as a temperature issue.

Oil temps and the severity of the temp depends on the oil.

For example a normal oil like comma semi 10 40 will struggle after 100 degrees to retain its properties.

But

More refined oils can go up as far as 115 degrees and be perfectly ok.

A good race-spec synthetic should be good with brief periods of 130*c bulk/sump temp and 150*c peak (bearings and head), but with the bearing loadings being higher then normal you'd want to be well on the safe side - keep it around the 100-110 area.
