I've always aimed for 100 and I get that pretty consistently with the 16 row oil cooler. That's with Fuchs Titan Pro S 5W40 oil

Oil temp isn't the issue here. Last two engines grenaded in the same way. First didn't have oil cooler, second did. Yet both blew the bottom end. First one was old and smoked a bit anyway. Second was relatively fresh.

That engine needs to come apart Luke to figure it out. I suspect it's blown a ring or two. Why, is another matter. Whatever has failed pressurised the sump for it to blow all the oil out of the dipstick tube or down the exhaust. For that to happen, its got to have come up a cylinder past the oil control ring. A compression test should tell you

Should definitely have an oil cooler for a track car. If not and your oil temps are getting high, that could be the problem.

I have never used an oil cooler on track before and never had any issues with oil temp.

Really? What sort of oil temps do you see on tracK?

15minute sessions at croft in my rallye barely seen around 90, and my old Astor on open pit lane didn't see much more than that. And I drive them hard on the road too with no oil temp problems.

my old engine regularly saw 125 on the dash gauge on hard driving but that had a faulty oil take off plate for the cooler
oil temp didnt kill this engine with bearing failure

Being turbo'd are you not running higher combustion temps thus requiring a 19 row? As demondriverdan said his n/a racing car is fine on a 16.

I think most track type cars regardless of induction type run the biggest cooler they can utilise.

I was using a 13 row and had the same temps as you on track Aaron. A 19 row solved the issue though.

I believe this is a 13 row? (I just counted the lines lol) and I got 130+ On track without it (one session)
And never over 100 now regardless of how hard I drive it or temps generally on the day

My old setup. 2x13 row 235mm coolers. Couldnt get temps above 100c even in 30+c weather conditions.

Looking at those pictures of the oil coolers what is the correct way to fit them, with the pipes coming in the top or the bottom?

Pipes in bottom, easier to change oil, no old oil left in coolers.
