Well got my cherry rallye today (woop woop) needs a fair bit of work id say,should be a nice little resto project!!!
this is how it looks at the moment












As soon as I got it back I chucked it up on sum axle stands and fully stripped the front end out, as I knew the engine woild be shot because they tried to start it numerous times
with out removing the plugs or dripping air filter or cleaning aby water out (well the is six bolts holding the plastic cam cover on LOL )

so after a couple of hours this is how she stands now...





and the water sat nicely in the inlet on the head,if you can make it out..





Made me chuckle when I removed the inlet manifold!!!
Got the g/box oil out and decided to have a brief scout and there is definitely some "derusting" to do



usual places on the front



And underneath which is abit battered for sum reason lol so its all coming off and being redone,I dont want her rotting out on me now do I?? And thats just one bit of the car
obciously tge boot floor needs cleaning up and treating aswell which il do.



so plenty to keep me busy and out of trouble for a fair time id imagine,just need to pinch the engine out of my current onyx 6 im driving for the transplantand il be away!!!

Its probably battered underneath like that because idiots think that area makes a good jacking point Sad

very good point mate,dont know why people do it perfectly good proper jacking point inches from there (think they would see it duh!! LOL )

What do guys recommend for rust treatment?? And where to get?? I can get kurust and I think one by jotun at pma motor factors down the road,any body used these?
Also good metal primer recommendations?

Plenty of others, Matt Evans's thread is also worth a read and there are others too. Mine had been jacked on the soft chassis rails as well and I had to get that fixed. Idiots like jacking the car there for some reason.

You need more than Kurust for that. It is ok for smallish rust spots but doesn't penetrate into heavy duty rust like that. The only way is to chisel, power wire brush, and rust removal gel back to clean metal. Then you need a decent primer. I went for Electrox zinc primer over painted with stone chip and red enamel. Then clear wax on top and cavity wax shot into box sections. Other good products on the market too but no point going cheap, best to go high quality as the job is such a ball ache you won't want the rust coming back.

Good luck with it, well worthwhile to save it, I love my red Rallye and it is now almost sorted. Keep us posted with updates.

someone jacked my car there too
the underseal gets damaged then the rust starts
just had mine sorted had the old cut out an new welded in lucky enough the chassis leg was fine just the soft rail

brilliant cheers shall be reading those today,I want to do a good job defo dont want it coming back!!
Yeah its pretty mullered my mates a dab hand with the welder (I cant weld looks like bird s**t) so il get him on it.
I got some etch zinc primer coming but need to get rust removal gel monday!!
Got peugeot cherry red coming so looks original and il get clear stone chip and spray cherry on top then clear coat it.
alot to do but will be worth it will be keeping updated.

thats a very nice job,I hope I can get mine to look like that.
hopefully the chassis rail is ok il have to get stuck in later and on monday too

Right so I have a nice little list of parts that im building up for the rallye now just gotta fit them:-
Black masks with gen pug headlamp protectors,
Carbon wrapped bonnet badge
got paint to do inlet manifold in graphite grey and cam covers red,
Carbon fibre centre cam cover bit,
White boot badge,
4" stainless steel magnex system,
Came with drilled/grooved discs have greenstuff pads and red braided line to go on the front,
New mintex rear discs and pads,
have alloy crank pulley coming,
Eibach front springs coming,
Phillip m second hand lower strut brace coming,
Etech upper brace,
Ram air induction kit with cold air to go on,
And rollerbearing wishbone bushes coming too.
team heko wind deflectors
spax rear shocks

not a bad start ay??

Need to crack on now!!

I dont know I thought it made a noticable difference on my current 6,but would like a nice red oneby omp (keeping with the theme and all that Smile )
Kd ones are rare arnt they?? Only seen like two!!

Totally agree with this, ditch the e-tech brace. A rolled up piece of cardboard held in place with black nasty would probably provide more chassis stiffening than an e-tech brace. I've got a KD which is the best design stiffness-wise. I bought, but never installed, a Raceland OMP copy which was quite well made but the powder coating on mine bubbled a bit despite never being used. These were £45 new, or you could get a second hand OMP for about that.

Black masks on a red Rallye look superb - should have been like that from new.

Since getting my chassis rails fixed, some bellend has jacked it on there again, no major damage but you can see it. Now I need to remember every time when going to a garage to specify to jack on sill jacking points, subframe or axle tube only, nowhere else.

right thanks for advice lads I shall get an omp one then u think,sell the etech on ebay I reckon Thumbs up

luckily I do all my own work so no worries about the jacking point there, dont see how people cant see them or use there heads before jacking them up!!

got some 17" black pro race 1.2 in black coming so dont worry mate Thumbs up , does any one no if il need arch work to fit them in im only goin -30 or -40 height wise front and rear dont think I will!

Nice Yes I used to have 17" superleggeras in anthracite on mine, looked mean Ninja

You will need to roll the rear arches or file the inside lip down slightly as it will catch on the tyres when moving.

By using thicker torsion bars, you may get away with not touching the arches, if you don't go any lower than -35mm

nice one I shall do that, im pulling the rear arch liners out to derust/clean and re-do anyway so may aswell while im there!!!

Jord294 I am looking to get thicker bars in the near future but I wont be goin lower tban -35 on the back anyway got s**t roads where I am (much like everywhere it seems LOL )

got an airbag light resistor and this lovely momo genuine pug wheel to go on


and looks like someones welded a new section in but will be tidying it up

So slowly making progress,slow because its f**king raining gggrrrrrr!!!

Just waitin for my bilt hamber supplies to turn up then can do a little derusting,its not as bad as I first thought tho I have found 2 new holes tho....




Started to clean the rest up,with god knows how many different wire brush drill attachments and a lil bit of gentle grinding, but I just want to get the engine out,but cant as cant get under it to pop driveshafts out and undo the lower mount as its chucking it down.



And I still have to get the engine out of the onyx 6 but im just going to unplug the engine loom and lift it out as a whole and put in the rallye and hopefully plug and play. Got to nick the aux belt set up and fit an alloy crank pulley I have coming beford she goes in...I just want this bloody rain to stop!!

More progress soon.....
