Ok I'm learning a lot, but one thing I'm not clear on is, do chargers have an oil feed from the engine or it's own kinda oil circulation? I know it's got to cooled but not sure if it's oil fed like a turbo?
Plus if I just used the pulley it came with (m45) would that be ok? I'll have to do more research particularly on oil, pulley sizes, but ill give it a go I think sounds fun.....

Eaton chargers are self contained with no oil feeds and no cooling, they're supposed to have roughly a 100k lifespan. You can change the oil yourself if you fancy. They came with various pulley sizes, you want to be looking at a ratio of at least 2:1. The best m45 to use is the later item off a cooper s with the coated rotors, you'll pay a premium for them though. Merc m45s are very cheap.

If you register on 205gtidrivers.com you'll be able to view my build thread and stefs which is very similar

I'm quite impressed by your ambition of this. If you go ahead then there is a projects section and I'm sure the many knowledgeable members will be able to help you along. Get a good camera for it too.

The merc charger will work fine. A friend of mine has this exact set up on his 205 GTI6. The noise is immense due to the whine you get from this type of charger. Sounds much better than a rotrex application, however his only makes 212bhp so it's a fair bit down compared to the rotrex.

So which is it to be, sound or POOOOOOOOWA??!!! Superman

Welcome btw Wave

Thats Tom i assume? I bloody love his car! Did offer to buy it from him but he wasnt interested lol.

Yes it will work as i am doing the exact thing at the moment. I am not after huge amounts of power but as Matt has said, the noise is immense!

I'm not going to argue with someone that knows a lot more than me, especially someone that has the thing fitted to their car. I tried to help with what I knew at the time, which be it limited was pointing in the right direction. The only reason that I knew that about the clutch was I know someone that had an SLK with a f**ked charger and had to get another one, but wasn't sure if it was a clutched version or not.

I did ask to see how you had fitted yours, I've not seen anyone else make any other inlet than the lynx one. Since you work for an engineering firm I imagine whipping something up to make it work is just a bit of fun whilst on lunch in work LOL I wasn't sure how far into machining things OP wanted to go.

In all fairness that is a constant curve, I was always led to believe that the root/screw chargers always dropped off at top end but that was always the trade off with having the much better low down torque which gives real world performance.

Fair enough, it was very Misleading info though.

I made mine some time ago now, mainly in my garage with basic tools, I had a local fabricator do the welding for me and there was limited machining which I did do myself mind.

Few pics

Proper garage mechanics. It does seem to be a larger unit than a rotrex though, I just wasn't sure if there was the room to get that unit in there. Obviously there is!

Just one more question.... (that's a lie there will be loads more) where does the power steering go if I get a relocation bracket? Is it where the aircon was? Cos that's already gone on mine.

To make your life easier I'd go with a saxo/106 electric pas pump
