make a 6 weigh the same as a 172 and it'll be quicker...

Had many a quick go in one though

Oh I forgot the unwritten motoring rule that once you've driven a car you're an expert on them Wink

Makes me qualified to decides I would want one though Smile

I'm not saying they aren't good. I just don't understand why you would trade for one

I find they are another one of those cars that bottom end feel and are faster than a 6 due to the gearing but seem to lack top end a bit.

I know a few people to have them for a while though with minimal problems and overall seem a good car. I've never really got the 'girly' image, I think they look quite aggressive especially from the front. The only thing that gave them the image was the Clio ads imo, nicole, papa lol

I don't think they are that tiny tbh. Obviously they are smaller than a 306, but still plenty of room for my 6'4 frame and the odd cool box in the boot.

If you want a big boot buy CG's GTi6 estate.

What's the matter with the gearboxes? Do they fail more than a GTi6 box given the same abuse?

I actually think the styling on them for the time is actually pretty good and more insperational than the 306 with differences beyond the base models.

And I'm not even a fanboi tbh. I don't really 'like' Clios - I just run one in to the ground as it's a cheap french hack but can see exactly why today people would pay a grand for one over a grand for a 306. Looks more than the money they are, don't have to replace umpteen worn or commonly broken parts like you do on your average 306 purchase.

The interiors aren't great - but it's french. Sit in a GTi6 after spending a lot of time behind the wheel of a Clio and you'll soon appreciate how dated the 306 interiors are now. Particularly the centre console shape.

On a similar note of not getting it, I can't see why people spend money on 306's going low boost. The delivery is uninsperational. 90% of people end up going high boost purely because they are in for a penny in for a pound and feel they need to go that route to get their moneys worth. The other 10% soon sell with a sad face because they realise they don't end up with 5k's worth of enjoyment at the end of it.

A 182/172 cup is the poverty spec.

A 182 with cup packs has everything. There are two cup packs, a suspension and a style one. The suspension one has a few differences across suspension components, slightly wider track I believe? And can be identified by bolt spacing on the hub (60mm ctc for the cup pack iirc), along with darker anthracite wheels (obviously these get swapped around anyway). The style pack includes a larger rear spoiler and a rubber front splitter.

172 cup is the light one with the no frills of air con or xenons, ABS wider track etc.

The cup pack 182's you can think of as a 182 with the xenons etc etc as standard but with the cup spoilers, wheels and splitter etc added.

172 cup is the one to buy for when they are worth something in 18 years time IMO. Got the half decent bits on but no heavy luxuries.

Depends what you want. If you want to be in the clique, it needs to be a 172 Cup. If you want a 182 for the lights and half leather seats but want Cup spoiler etc then buy a 182 with cup packs added on.

No ABS for the win. Although annoyingly the geometry differences can be a pain for cheap parts. For example factors don't make the longer Cup track rods. Renault want £55 a side for them.

Buy one with air con and you will have the ability to make your glovebox refridgerated which is a handy feature I suppose.

Often the 182s with both cup packs are referred to as 'full fat'. Might help with your search!
