Yeah pretty simple these pug cars are, which is what makes the good tbh, new cars have so much to be removed before u get to the broken part lol.

Is your clutch slipping at all ?

Laugh my ass off

You know you supplied a recon head for that car don't you...

As you didn't fit it i'll let you off. Alistair thought it was probably during fitting - not being pinned correctly Thumbs up

Yes, I am taking all this stuff with me to change when it gets looked at next week I hope. Keep the others as spares if they are OK.

Havent got a comp tester sadly, and its pretty tough to do it on yer own, last time I did one you neede a fair bit of elbow grease to hold the device in the plug hole, but that was on a Mini 2 years ago lol!!

Machine mart sell a decent one pretty cheap, easy job to do mate using modern tools. Make sure u open the throttle when turning engine over on each cylinder. You should be looking at around 225 psi or 15 % difference on each one, any more and something has gone. Compressor tool will tell you how and what is at fault by how the reading is going to max etc. Well worth buying a new modern tool that goes in like a spark plug.

16 mm socket size, trust me they are cheap enough to buy and well worth having one so in future u can use it on other cars to determine what is wrong or sell it on ebay, well worth having one mate.

Im sure there are other tests you can do first to rule out things then if no answers come up a compression test is the only way of knowing how healthy the engine is.

When I bought my 6 it had 10 bent valves and slightly out timing and it still just about went off the clock lol. Just because they tap doesn't mean they don't seal.
I've got mine on the rollers next weekend. I know my valve timing is perfect just hope it makes good power!

These engines lose no power at all if maintained. Mine pulled standard power with no mods on a rolling road with 120k miles on the clock.

Miles's 286k example made book power.

Adam's several times made over book power, and increased torque with advanced cam, when the HG let go we found the bores to be rather worn, it always burnt oil that one!

For the money a compression tester is about the best value for money tool there is. Look for differences across cylinders rather than the top figure - different tools give you different end results.

You'll know if there is an issue with it. I suspect its not the compression unless the plugs aren't done up tight, but then you should hear that.

I am wondering if its just the timing wasn't picked up right by the rolling road by the way. That can change your graph and figures massively. If you can post it up it would be a good idea Smile
