Just a little update

Well on my USA trip I had boring meetings so was looking on e bay and found a tidy 206 shell with a cage so after a few click it was mine

So the new plan is to drop all the running gear out of the 205 into the 206 and install the H/B supercharger into this so I have plenty of late nights over the next few weeks but it should be great fun to drive once completed.....

Just giving an update so the 205 shell has gone to Scotland to be a track car so funds are ready for a new body kit as i fitted the GTI 180 rear axle with solid mount kit and set it to the correct height apart from with the 7 1/2 rims fitted the wheels are touching the arches so looking to get the Pam Am body kit for it to gain the extra width at the front and rear..

Stripped the shell of all its wiring and heater internally and wow what a great pile of rubbish there was......

Dummy fitted the engine in last night with the 206 subframe and it just will not fit or line up correctly so after talking to a fellow racer he has used a 306 subframe in his and changed the mounting points so will be installing the engine on the gearbox and top mount then lining up the subframe so i can get the drive shafts as straight as possible when the weight is on the wheels as this should help the car stop destroying drive shafts off the start.... also think i am going to have to move the strut tops back to ensure i have castor on the struts.

Good thing with this is i can fit the 306 drive shafts and the gear linkage looks ok as well but should i keep the BE1 gearbox or go with the 6 speed box as i think the LSD will swap over to this box???

will post some pics when i get chance....

marty

You need to use 206 shafts unless you go very wide wishbones

Guess so LOL

But whats wrong with the 206 one?

Just thinking out loud here, but compare the 206 DW bellhousing to the git6 one.

I'd see if the dw8 and 10 stuff will bolt on at least the back and box, probably needs a custom top arm, OR, possibly a phase 2 xsara vts top arm.

Clever parts bin usage, sod bodging a 306 subframe on Wink

Problem with the 206 subframe is its too high and has no room for the exhaust to exit from the rear as it has a hump in it for the front exit exhaust.

Also wanted to beef up the subframe as it has to handle a lot of power so should not be too much of a bad job to do

Hi WelshPug didnt know there was different subframes for this car so ordered a new GTI subframe as there looks to be more room on that thanks for the advice.

Chris i have the high boost GTI6 engine already that has cost me £1600 just for the bottom end so changing engines now is not an option.

Championship is televised so they are looking for newer cars on the grid, i knew it would be the last year for the 205 so decided to change to the 206 as its the closest that the parts i have will fit..

Sad moment to see my 205 shell disappear as i have been racing these for year now and loved the way they handled.

Ahh I see, no worries then.

There was a guy on here that used to run a low boost 306 in rallycross and did really well. He now uses a 206 for the same reason as you (306 is now too old).

206 here = http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=151120

My thoughts too, most cars over the 306 age are all too lardy n dont handle as well either in this kind of price range anyways.

Once i got the car running for some reason it dropped a valve 2 days before racing on tick over luckly it did not damage the bottom end so stuck on a used head and off to the dyno

Got 220 BHP out of it with out even trying so due to time left it at this as was aware of the used head and set rev limiter to 5k to try and protect the engine as i justed wanted some track time to set up the car.

Managed 2 laps and the headgasket went so pulled in and enjoyed the rest of the racing weekend with a few beers.

Race day for 2 laps and lots of beers

Currently got Rich building me a new head and have purchased a PTS tarmac box with a 5.3 cwp and one of Rich's lightened steel flywheels so let the rebuild start again next week ready for racing on the 29th.....

Well the head gasket issue has cost me a little more than expected as i thought i would check the bearings out on the engine just in case any damage was done...

All have been damaged and marked the crank so new crank and bearings will be getting fitted this weekend and then to rebuild the top end and fit my new gearbox once i sort out the diff issue.

Hopefully will get it running over the weekend and then can take it back to the rollers to get mapped and see what power we can get out of it ready for Croft in October!!!!
