Well, its 11:30 pm and ive just done about as much as I can in regards to stripping the interior out.

All that's left is the stuff behind the dash.

Got in the car for a quick drive and OMFG! Fuel fumes are killing me, as I sit here typing this I have a severe headache No and I can't help wonder if there is a problem.

No observable fuel leak.

Could it just be the exhaust reeking? I have a decat pipe welded on to a standard centre section, to a sleeve fit powerflow backbox, I have however checked under the car and it doesn't seem to be blowing anywhere.

Any guesses?

Cheers, Pebbles.

Is it a fuel smell or exhaust smell, I would have said exhaust more than fuel. You'll smell a fuel leak outside aswell normally

Exhausts have a burning sort of smell to them usually though don't they? This smells strongly of petrol, like at the pumps, only instead of pumping it into the filler cap its being pumped up my large nose.

You pulled the plugs under the rear seats (or where they were anyway) , check that none of the breather pipes have come off and are directing fumes into the car. It's strange that it's only happened after stripping the interior.

You say that you haven't stripped the bulkhead stuff so shouldn't come from the engine bay then? I would have a good check again on the green and white elbows on the fuel line/check the rail and check the seals on the injectors.

Strange one

The four injectors that go into the engine from the fuel rail, they have two O-ring seals on them, one to seal against the rail and one for the manifold. Sometimes these can go (I had to change two a few years back) as I was getting bad MPG, and after ages of hunting found that I was getting fuel pretty much pouring out of the injectors. I've got literally no idea how the engine just didn't catch fire.

They aren't cheap though so only replace if damaged

Oh sorry, i meant the ones under the rear seat. I wasn't aware of where they were before i stripped. I did it owain style and just tore everything out.

There is a possibility that i screwed up somewhere along the way.

The two that cover the fuel tank, one for access to the pump and I've never lifted the other one so I don't know what's there. Lift and see what is going on under there. It may also be the breather pipe that leads from the tank back to the filling neck, but that is under the rear arch liner

What you can do is wire a supply straight from the battery to the pump so that it constantly runs whilst you hunt for a leak, if it doesn't turn up whilst it is pumping and the car isn't running then it's not the fuel lines

Haha the only tank i know mate. LOL

No matter how hard i try, i cant remember the dates i have to do stuff over the course of a week,

Yet i can still remember what all the major automotive and gunnery components on a Challenger II tank are, how they operate, and how best to repair them. Let alone every item on the equipment schedule and all the bolt sizes and torque settings for the entire tank.

Bloody ridiculous!

You haven't got a crank case breather have you? As they can smell quite a bit.

Unsure mate, if its not standard then no.

Just been informed that my car has been leeking fuel all over the road outside my work, unfortunately I'm in Newbury with the keys so can't do a lot about it right now.

It didn't occur to me at first, but yesterday I filled the tank completely, the first time in my ownership (Oct 2009)

Is it possible that the seals may have corroded?

Sounds like the same problem I have, my tank dribbles fuel when filled, so I haven't filled it for quite some time now! I replaced the fuel filler elbow but that didn't fix it. I think instead it is the seal where the pump sits in the tank, under the back seat. I got a new seal for about £7, ref 152823, haven't fitted it yet though as I'm scared of dying in a massive ball of flames.

I Probably just need to man up and get on with it.

iu had the same problem few months back, it was the L bend going into the tank by the rear d/s wheel leaking, its £20 for the part off ebay but you do have to almost empty the tank to replace it !

Haha its not that bad, just make sure you jack the drivers side up high (so the petrol moves to the other end of the tank)

Haha, I took the tank off and put it back on, on my own. Wasn't that bad at all and it had 3/4 of a tank when I pulled it off. Did they say where it was from? The front end or by the fuel tank. I would have said that it is the breather pipe where it goes upto the neck is the one that has gone, or the L bend. They are the only two with pressure on them from the fuel when the ignition isn't on

What's that on the new one you fitted or the old one you removed? Removing was easy enough...

s**t... Hole in top of fuel pump, no wonder I could smell fuel.

Is replacing it a tank off job? Or can I just access it from the rear under the cap.
