Hello guys,

On my diesel LX runaround the brakes are pretty shocking (very little pedal feel etc) and I have a gti6 that I am breaking for parts.

What is involved for putting the gti6 brakes onto the LX?

I was just planning on taking the master cylinder, discs and calipers and swapping them over. Is that all I need? Any issues that I might come across?

Any help would be great, thanks Smile

Did this on my old HDi Dturbo. I didn't swap the MC but think I should've done as the pedal moved quite some way before the brakes started doing anything (although that might be my s**t bleeding).

I managed to do it myself and I'm mechanically retarded! Big grin

As Russbez said, make sure you have the right size alloys. They will fit behind Lazers but it's close.

Good to hear that its not hard Dan, cheers Smile

Wheel clearance isnt an issue as the cyclones are being fitted to it.

no need, just sling some new pads in, job done.

base model brakes are so cheap to maintain.

Whats the difference in maintenance?
just different pads to change, the price difference would be feck all, there not exactly carbon fibre discs and super kevlar pads or whatever material they use with them carbon fibre discs

Must be your s**t bleeding lol I put my 6 brakes on my hdi a few months ago very little extra pedal travel stops on a 6pence now Smile.

And on an lx does it have drums on rear? Usual cause of poor pedal is drums not self adjusting. Pads and discs and an adjust should make it stop a lot better. But if you got a full 6 setup for nothing then that's what I'd be doing Wink.

Cheers for the replies Smile

I can see your point about discs/pads being cheaper but I can usually get parts cheap anyway, and with me having the gti6 setup available for free, it makes sense to me to put it on there as I know the gti6 brakes are good.

Oh, good shout about the drums, will try and get that checked out, I'm not sure what it has on the rear. It was suggested to me that the master cylinder could be at fault, so just decided to rob the lot from the "parts bin" I have Laugh

On the other downsides list, they weigh a f**king ton compared to the 247mm's and will make the ride and acceleration worse.

Check the drums.

Well I really dont want the acceleration to be worse, as its p**s poor at the minute.

Will get the drums checked out and go from there. Is it definitely drums on the rear of an LX?

I fitted 6 brakes to my HDi 3 years ago. Didn't change the MC and had no problem with pedal feel at all.

I didn't notice any significant detrimental effects to performance, and did notice a fair braking difference.

As above, i put gti6 front calipers and a rear beam on my d-turbo, didnt change the master cylinder. when i did eventually get round to fitting a gti 6 m/c it made no difference.

Just fit the front calipers and adjust the shoes on the back and u'll be fine. At least you'll have a good handbrake then too.
