Thought I would start a thread on this as Im now getting it ready to race for next year.

After a track day earlier this year it started to smoke badly, so bad that they black flagged me in the end!

so it was out with the engine for a strip down,

with the engine on the floor it looks nothing special, just like a standard GTi-6 engine!

the head was taken off to find lots of play in the pistons! Number 1 rings were gone and head gasket had also gone between 1 and 2 aswell as 3 and 4 cylinders so no wonder it was smoking!

sump taken off and a really nice bottom end was found!

engine haas now been taken to a local race engine builder to have rings, pistons and bores sorted out.

It was then decided to do away with the old and complicated ecu and dash, and fit omwx with jenvys, aswell as removing lots of stuff which is no longer needed in the race series we will be running in order to try and keep the wieght down.

so air jack system is now out, although I loved them they are quite heavy and just not needed!

lots of carbon parts,

most will go back in but the floor trays may not as again they are just not needed, plus the are fairly heavy being as they are lined with kevlar!

all dash wiring and engine wiring out

found a touring car spec hair dryer behind the dash! not really sure why it was there, in behind the dash display?

looking a bit bare now!

As jenvys are going I decided to try to copy a 306 maxi air intake system,

so a spare front panel and grille was cut down to allow the air intake to go straight into the jenvys

If you're ever at Brands let me know and I'll pop over (even trackdays / testing etc). Might be able to get trackside and grab some photos for you as well.

Cool beans, I'll be there (unless I'm in Newcastle, but I'll still try)

I know the rear camber is 3 degrees not sure off hand what the rear toe is but will find out for you

thanks

the front panel was cut either side inside the headlamps, and re-welded back together lower down, and the middle par is 3 front panels cut up to get a straight flap piece without the bonnet catch and then all weled together!

Damn, didn't think it would be as simple as I'd hoped!

Looks like a good job on it though, I'll try and do something similar as I like the increased air flow you will get

Rear camber and toe is adjustable so there are no fixed settings. Probably best to find somewhere that works for you and leave it at that, rather than alter for different circuits. Apparently they used to run upto 6mm toe out at the rear to get the slicks up to temp and to aid turn in. I imagine it was quite scary to drive though!

I'm now making a new part for the rear axle, but the my doubt is "do i make it adjustable or not?". If i had some reference values, it could help me decide.

I always prefered to drive with the rear, but using more than toe =0, is out of my track experiences.
The first time i drove a zx 16v with 0 toe, the impression was quite good.

First time I drove with zx rear arms with 0 toe i did this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRx0r3KxY_o

Didn't honestly notice a great change in turn in but did notice it was much harder to get the car under control again if the rear end stepped out! Although the crash was mainly thanks to wet grass, or thats my excuse anyway...
