Anyone have any experience about how much you can lower your 306 gti with KW v2 suspension without messing up the driveshafts?

I tried to lower it like 60mm with about 15 mm left on the coilover but that broke my driveshafts and made the car shake.

I tried to lift the car 10mm but it still seems to shake once in a while, when not giving full gas under 2000 rpm.

It may be something else, but I think it might still be the same issue?

The thing is that I got my driveshafts changed to brand new ones because the car was shaking when giving gas, so I thought that would help, but after I had the new ones installed, the car was still shaking and on my way to the ring on the autobahn, both driveshafts died and the grease from them were all over the place Sad

were they cheap remanufactured items?

tbh even stupid lowering should work fine in theory with standard shafts, after all they are designed to work when the suspension compresses over bumps, though obviously if you run them at extreme angles constantly they will wear out quicker than standard height.

No they were brand new original ones ... have brand new ones on again now, but might be something else?

Yeah I never had trouble with lowering any of my cars like hell, but just heard someone tell me you could maybe lower it too much ?

lowering wont make any differnece to shafts, if anything it makes them run straighter. You must have a problem elsewhere

You have left the bumpstops on the coilovers, yes?

If not it's pretty easy to run out of plunge travel....

the shaft should have plenty of plunge surely? its only lowered likewise if the std strut was at full bump

Stan: I could try to raise it more, running 50mm lower atm, 60mm before.

They seem fine the engine mounts, its powerflex the bottom one and the others are spoox.

I see what Phill is thinking, excessive lateral movement on the mounts when the shafts are at full plunger will wear them out.

Makes a difference for sure when too low.

The shafts run up hill from gearbox to hubs when the car is sat stationary,so when the car dips the shafts do pass there max plunge point and eat the jointsYes

been -60mm for 2 years now and no driveshaft problems. As said above get everything checked. Is the drivers side driveshaft secured in the bottom engine mount housing properly??? This would cause massive movement for sure Yes

the shaft should have plunge at full droop and full bump, i cant see how it makes any difference what the rideheight is set at. The shaft deflects both ways. I have seen on the fiesta challenge cars when on downhill tarmac stages, the engine will move about an inch laterally and this can bottom out a shaft

i heard that the windscreen was thicker at the bottom than the top due to the sand settling over time

-60mm on standard design dampers?

Perhaps its the lack of bumpstops on some coilovers.Dunno

The Hdi I've seen eat the pass side shaft twice now is on cheap looking coilovers,and lower than -60mm looking at itRoll eyes

Nope, no dust on them. LOL

I roll the car forward and back in the garage once a week so everything gets moved and I also turn the engine over by hand every fortnight so it sits in a different place. I do look after it whilst it's sat there in storage. Smile

AP racing coilovers on mine with rear shocks to match. I had a shake once with a driveshaft but that was only due to a split inner CV boot.
