Thought I might aw well bung this up here....

After owning my 1.8 for 18 months, it started burning oil big time. Full engine rebuild was done after a few hiccups and then it went off for its mot only to find its rotten!

Oil stain left in my drive

So decided I had had enough and bought a 6. I was gutted really as that was the first engine rebuild I had done and it ran so well after the rebuild. The plan was to low boost it within the year and I was gutted I was now missing this opportunity to build probably the first boosted jp4. Luckily my mate bought the engine and the plan lives on Big grin

So anyway...the 6. Was the first one I found on auto trader when I started looking, on71k with full history in the right colour and best but was, it was 300yds from my house. Went to see it that evening and drove it away after paying £1500 for it.

Few little issues with it. Mainly front suspension was tired but all the kit off the 1.8 was going onto it so didn't bother me much.

So first thing to fit was a new cambelt seeing as there was no history. Also swapped the b4 front and rear shocks over with new wishbones, drop links, discs and pads

Bad news was the rear b4s lifted the back right up

So after a Day at kris bs, this was sorted along with a new clutch

Also got my laguna splitter, new plates and PSA surrounds fitted

My ripp strut brace arrived today. Got it painted

(china was the only colour I had left in the shed. I'm not that much of a tart to colour code it)

And a whoring photo because we all know that china is beautiful in the sun!
Oh and then I promptly dropped it and ruined the finish. Not that I'm fussed. It's only to protect it.

Was an absolute bas**rd to fit. The holes were about 3mm too close together so had to get the grinder out and widen them slightly. Don't know if that's because my sub frame is fooked or what but its on now.
Drives epically now. The front feels so solid going into a corner and the lift off over steer now is absolutely immense! It's made an unreal difference and can't wait for my top one.

Also got my new air con pipe fitted. Tbh I cant see any real damage to the old one but at least I know this ones good now! Will be getting someone out to pressure test it payday.

Good stuff Smile

Where did you get the replacement air con pipe from and what did it cost? Smile

(is this the only pipe known to rot through do you know?)

On the ph3, there is two pipes at the ottom of the rad that rot. This one is £60 from pug (I paid £25) and the other is a lot longer and is about £160 but my aircon man reckons he can easily make one up for about a quarter of the price.
Check out eBay. They come up regularly there.

The lift-off is immense? As in, it's very snappy?

Yeah I'm really not happy with it being there at all. Looking at alternatives at the moment but the car rarely goes out when it's wet anyway!

And yeah it is snappy. Has really sharpened the front end right up

Easy. Take the seat out, take the air bag plugs off the fixing plate and undo 4 bolts. And yes you can use the passengers one.

Well small update
Finally got my longlife fitted! Sounds much better on the 6 than it did on the 1.8. Still got some oil in though as when i gave it some and it got hot, was smoking like a transit lol

also, MOT is due very soon and ive got two things to fix. Rear brakes and wishbones and tracking. Couldn't do the wishbones as Kris cant get them till tuesday so thought id tackle the brakes. That was a mistake!

New pads and discs for £30 thanks to the 30% off at ECP.
Removed the wheels and straight away was aware that both discs would barely move (and yes i had the handbrake off.....)
Whipped the discs and pad carriers off to wind the pistons back and they were seized Sad Ended up removing both callipers and stripping them, cleaning them up and freeing them up. Work much much better now (well actually work!)

clearly wernt working properly. Other side was worse!

Before

After

Hope i dont have to do that again any time soon!

My China smoked like a B****, once the engine was in and running... Original engine was a snaper.

Nice little project coming on here love the carpet, not so keen on the headlights but having said that, it's different and hard to come by those genuine Blue masks Smile So that is you, Stan and Mark with Blue masks anyone else? Dunno
