Right thought i would update this seeing as it hasnt been for ages!
Since June, i havent done much with it. Ive fitted Hispec 4 pot callipers and after some issues with them retaining their fluid (and not working when i went up the hill at pugfest due to badly contaminated pads!), they are great!

This was taken just after i decided it would be a good idea to put two wheels in the gravel! lol

Since, the car hasnt really moved as ive been considering my options with it. I did consider selling up since this is a second car as im fortunate enough to have a nice eco diesel as a daily. Ive since slapped my self back into sense and decided to supercharge it!

Hispecs + braided lines

Rebuilt my rear callipers as they were binding on and destroying pads and discs

Something a little different. Got bored of cream lol

R26 intercooler, Nissens rad and oil cooler

Nice new bargain Omex.

And what remains of the engine im starting to rebuild.

Oh and a peek of the colour scheme for the engine bay Smile

Progress on this is moving fairly quickly and im hoping to have it charged and ready for mapping February. Biggest thing i need to do now is get the charger bracket mocked up but cant do that until i have rebuilt the engine.

Small update on this. Spent last sunday cleaning up the block and knocking out the old core plugs.

Hoping to get most of the engine back together this weekend ready for me to start mocking up the charger bracket.

I thought it had to be done really precisely on a big machine that can't move?

Same, I had pictured something similar to a milling machine.

Think your thinking of boring it out. The surfaces on that honing tool are similar to a fine grit sand paper and just give the bore a slight cross hatch effect on the surface for oil control.
I'm sure some engineering shops might have a special machine but I've also seen them use tools identical to the one in my picture. Providing it gets the same effect, it doesn't really matter!

Ah I see.

So is this block preparation for shiny new forged pistons? Or to rebuild as a standard fresh unit?

No forged parts unfortunately. Im not running enough boost to warrant the cost.
Its all being rebuilt with fresh bearings, rings and seals so effectively it will be a new engine.
Considering its done 102k and it had a belt snap, Its actually one of the best condition 6 engines I've seen which is reassuring. Its been rebuilt at some point in the past.

Right so engine is almost there. Just waiting on a few bits to be painted then i can get it fully back together.

Had a bit of an issue today when building it up. Felt like there was a lot of end float. Could i find my feeler gauges to measure it? Could i f**k! Went and bought some more and thankfully it came out at 0.10mm. PSA say the tolerances are 0.07 to 0.27mm so I'm pretty happy with that.

Hoping to have it finished off next weekend Smile

Right so not a huge update. Went down to see Rich W last weekend (Top bloke!) to pick up some shines

At one point, i was going to stick with the standard inlet and mount the charger down where the AC pump would be but decided against this. Not enough room and this should look a bit tidier so i went for one of Rich's inlets.

Got the rest of the engine built up. Just need a few odd bolts and a cam belt. Was dark before i got a proper pic of it.
Payday is Thursday so will be ordering a cam belt kit and all the little odd bits i need, get the engine fully built then its ready to start building the charger bracket. Going to pick up a new welder tomorrow so I'm hoping to have the charger fully mounted in the next few weeks!

Only issue i can see now is a idle control valve of some sort. If I'm honest, that was an oversight but because I'm running the TB on the inlet, my only real option is to cut a hole into the inlet for the ICV which I'm really not too keen on! Any ideas?

Looking awesome they buddy Smile

Be interesting to see the pipework for the intercooler as mine and 'normal peopels' charger setups get quite tight at that point. I guess yours don't have to run under the sill though.

Good to see you rebuilt it first, thats exactly what I shouldn't done doh...

No restrictor to take out but you can buy smaller pullies for them. They are good for up to 15000rpm so should get a fair amount out of that. Even if you went bigger with a m60 or similar, you can pick them up on eBay for £200ish

Looking good Niall! Looks like you've got plenty of belt wrap on the charger and nice supported 'runs' to it, should work a treat!

You sorted some decent blow off valves yet? What size pulley is on the charger, 65mm?
