I'm not mate, I have to put the Magnex centre section back in for track work. Quietens it down to a near silent 98dB...LOL

this is the problem i have when choosing a system clicky what do you guys make of this? does it mean that an exhaust cant be louder than 82db? or that they are doing people for invalid insurance? also they state that people are modifying them purely to make it louder, but that wont be the case for me, on the sc6 it will be for performance not noise.

I wonder how long it will be before these noise measuring devices are spread throughout forces all over the UK? Unsure

Stay away from magnex mate, nothing wrong with the product. They are just really loud. I have magnex backbox and decat and straight through centre section and it is loud, still probably alot quieter than Stans being low boost and a 2.5-3" backbox LOL

Depends how bad the boy racer problems are in the rest of the country I guess. Whats the actual law on it though? I can't find a definitive answer anywhere on the net for what is illegal, although they mention fines and taking people to court, it's just confusing the hell out of me??

It's probably not a figure, just the policemans discretion. I would think during the day you would never get done for it, but 2am revving up they would do you for disturbing the peace or whatever it is.

Yeah I hope your right Paul. I can understand them doing the boyracers, putting stupid bucket exhausts on their stupid little cars then sitting revving them in cars parks is bloody annoying and should be punished, but a performance exhaust on a sc6 that is only really used as a daily driver I'm hoping shouldn't be a problem, I'm not going to be disturbing people and it's for performance purposes so is on for a genuine reason

As far as I know there is no official figure. Even for an MOT it is at the testers discretion.

I have never had a problem regarding the noise of my system, but then I don't go out and annoy neighbourhoods with it in the dead of night, so I guess thats why.

4. A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.

Well I think I will probably go with the jetex system including sports cat, unless de-cats are alot cheaper?

They are but my insurance (greenlight at the time) said they wouldn't insure me if my car wouldn't pass an MOT.

That would be the case with every insurance too. Legally your going to have to get a cat if it bothers you. Or just change it to a standard cat come mot time.

I have to be careful with the TVR as it's bloody loud at standard, but as Stan suggests i'm not a twat with it, i don't rev the nuts off it on the drive and i don't take it out at ungodly hours. I pushed it out the garage last time i took it out early to show some respect.

I'm going to put a Jetex on the Rallye when i get a chance as i don't want it horrendously loud and it needs to be track ready. Best bet would be to hollow out a standard cat if you're concerned about the above. Obviously it would need to be changed but in the event of an insurer checking it would look legit.

That's something I also thought but don't know if it's possible or who could do it? Is there anyone who can put a perforated tube through the middle of the cat?

Ideally I would like to remain completely legal with it so looks like de-cat is not an option then

If you need/want to remain entirely above the law, forget the de-cat option. Yes

Jetex seem to be the one that people go for.

I have never tried any brand of sports cat to be honest, but the public opinion on this forum tends to swing towards the Jetex. Yes

i cant wait Big grin i am resisting the temptation to try to get a ride in a high boost cos i know once i experience it i'll want it LOL im doing it the expensive way but its a progressive learning method so that i know the car and become capable with it before doing more. i think if i went straight to a c38 setup i'd be dangerous, so its one step at a time.

i think im going to be exclusive in my area, as far as i know there is no-one within many miles with the same level of tuning as mine. only boy racers here, no professionally done high performance motors like the sc6, or if there is then there cant be many

I did it one stage at a time, low boost, high boost and now super boost. In my opinion its the best way as you say you really get to know the car and can push it to the limit in each stage which is beneficial. Yes
