just wondering what everyones running on their low boost sc cars?

id like to keep mine to a reasonable volume and most importantly road legal, but at the same time dont want to restrict the power. i am tempted to try a sports cat instead of going de-cat, would a sports cat be suitable with the sc? and if so any good ones to recommend?

the rest of the system i was thinking either 2.25 or 2.5 stainless?

From a flow perspective, i noticed a difference going from a 2.25 to to a 2.5 bore Yes

Noise is a hard one with SC as when you open the throttle, the noise just goes mental Smile

The jetex is meant to be the quiestest for pootling around, with a nice note when you put your foot down Thumbs up

what was the difference between 2.25 and 2.5? do you mean it was alot louder or that it gave better/worse performance?

ok thanks chris Smile 2.5 sounds like the better choice then

no worries, im a complete novice with performance exhausts, although ive fitted many ive always gone for genuine pug but obviously cant with the SC.

what have you got in terms of cat?

also how loud is yours? i need to keep mine legal because the cops around my way are very keen on loud cars because we have a big boy racer community

I have a decat mate, but I know some use a sports cat.

I have a Powerflow system with some fairly big boxes on it. At low throttle openings it sounds basically standard so for pootling round town etc, its very normal and quiet. Put your foot down and open throttle more than half way and noise gets much louder.

There are some measurements in my project thread, will look them out.

I found your figures on the castle coombe thread Chris, 106db at 5200, I'm guessing that's over the road legal limit?

If you down the sports cat route, buy an expensive one with a good warranty. SC-6s seem to get through them. I've knackard 2 now.

That was my previous exhaust mate.

These are my current figures:

Idle: 77 DBa
4500: 87.2 DBa (gentle acceleration)
4500: 90.4 DBa (harder acceleration with opening up throttle more, peaked at 100.2 DBa)
5250: 98.2 DBa

And as far as I know, I dont know what the legal sound limit is, and if there is one, but like I said, while pootling its very quiet. While going past bacon station, just keep the revs down and only use partial throttle and you will be all good Yes

It's at the bottom of a hill leading into a 60 zone so a great place to open it up, but yeah easy on the throttle there would be a solution Smile

Avoid chaep ones from MIJ performance. To be fair it serves me right for paying £180 for a sports cat. In their defense they replaced it under warranty and gave me another 12month warranty. I just can't be arsed with the hassle of taking it back.

I can't recommend any by experience, but Jetex make good products. I like my exhaust

So you've only got 1 box in your system? That must be deafening?

Holy crap, apparently that's just 9db away from a jet engine at 100 feet and a gunblast according to a website I just looked on. Do you use ear plugs?

yeh but +9db is 8 times as loud, and 100 feet is 30db loss in air!!! So a jet engine at 1 foot is 170dB ( or 10000 times louder than his exhaust) (edit as I dropped a decimal place)
