So if a well set up car is faster than a R26-R then it should beat the ring record for a front wheel drive car...is that really what people are suggesting? LOL

It's only got the record for the fastest *stock* FWD car, not to say others haven't done quicker but they're modified.

What we're doing here (rather tediously) is comparing a standard car with one that's been modified in an unspecified way and trying to draw meaningless unscientific conclusions.

My comment was not meant to be taken as it reads...i know what's going on, people are desperately trying to live in la la land where their 6 can be made as fast as a Veyron and handles like a Eurofighter Thumbs up

f*ck, it can't?! I'VE WASTED SO MUCH MONEY! But yes seriously new cars are just something else compared with the '6. I notice the OP has had the common sense not to come back.

It's not all about bhp/tonne, where they make peak torque also counts, hence my v6 rallye with only 202bhp pushing lbsc cars along.

It's fairly pointless comparing a heavily modified car with a standard one really.

Firstly, the R26.R doesn't hold that record any more. It was beaten by the new RS Megane Trophy last summer, which went 9 seconds faster (which somewhat destroys your theory of beating that record to be an unachievable feat).

Secondly, it held the unofficial (all non-racing lap times are unofficial) FWD production car record, so unmodified. If the question is 'Could a modified low boost 306 lap the 'ring faster than a standard R26.R?' then the answer is probably yes, it's just a case of how far the modifications go.

Indeed, and it's also fairly pointless comparing £ / performance when one car is a limited edition (a real one, not like the Rallye) with only 230 examples in the UK.

This leads me on to my dream of dropping a 1.6T from a DS3/Mini/207GTI/RCZ into the Rallye. But since it doesnt even use a throttle body to control it, it may be a bit complicated.

Yes and yes, they do feel much better and they defiantly handle better, and the ESP system on some works perfect.

Would be nice to own a nice new car in the winter as I get pretty bored of the stiff clutch and just how it runs in cold weather, but then it's the total opposite sometimes and I love the go-karty feel of a oldish car Meh can't win.

I beg to differ 1100kg, 284bhp... Bhp/tonne is key!

Bear in mind the r26r only has harnesses, and no stereo.
