Was just looking through me car pictures and some of the Track days I did. Makes me laugh at how rough round the edges it looks compared to some immaculate ones in the projects thread.

But it was a laugh on the track and is more fullfilling in a car you did up yourself. Having welded the cage in I wasn't too nevous about rolling it...Unsure

Holding up traffic a little bit Roll eyes

Anyone got any of their 1st attempts with their cars? Probably will be better....

My first attempt is currently on going, been in bits for ages, I just keep running out of funds.
Doesn't help that I bought my first house at more or less the same time and that still needs plenty work done too Sad

I supposed technically the buggy is the first 'track' only car I did for myself rather than others.

And it still looks a lot rougher around the edges than that 205 LOL

Perfect? Thanks!
It was alright just wasn't 100% reliable as I bought it cheap and didn't have any history on it. But was good fun!
I don't have time for another. But it depends on what my next road car is.

I built this back in 1998 /1999. Started as a standard silver XR2, i restored the bodywork with new gen front wings, front panel and bonnet, painted it inside and out in Rover Tahiti blue, then built a 1700cc high compression cvh engine with solid lifters, race/rally cam and twin 40 webber DCOE's. It made 150bhp on the rollers and went like a stabbed ferret.

Trackdays were just getting popular back then, and i've been doing them ever since.

Me and my mate are going to buy a track car sometime next year, I can't wait as there's only so much I want to try myself on my road car, and would probably never take my car on track. It's out of a 6 which is want he wants or I would like a 205.

My first track day will be on the 28th, car project thread is in my sig. it's come along way from the £175 scrapper i bought about a year ago, started as a budget, thinking if i do all the work it'll be cheap, spent about a grand in all, but it's been done how i want it. needs a proper cage and seats but they can wait. I just wanna get in it and go now.

PS. Matt, that XR2 looks awesome.

Thanks Mark, unfortunatly it just wasnt fast enough. Was an active member of the local RSOC group, and track boys all had cossies, so i sold it and built a 250bhp caged S2 RS Turbo for track.. Running on Slicks with 315mm AP's it was fun.

Been doing track days in standard road cars for a few years before I did my 1st stripped out track car.

I was running a V6 406 coupe, when the bottom fell out of the car market a few years back, so stripped it and tracked it. Was quite quick on the long straights, but handled like on old barge with the V6 up front and standard road suspension. Had some fun in it until it spun a bearing at Castle Coombe.)
