Theres a few ways to do it, and using the MI16 4x4 running gear is probably the worst. You could use escort/sierra cosworth running gear adapted to suit, which would be one of the cheaper options.

For lots of money you could use any engine, mounted to a sequential box, with front, mid and rear diffs, one off driveshafts and hubs. Basically build your own WRC car. If money isn't a problem, phone Prodrive or M-Sport, they should be able to fix you up with something.

^^As above, you don't want the Mi16x4 drivetrain if you're after lots of power, they won't take much more than they have in the 405 without serious work.

What kind of budget are you looking at - I know you say money is not a problem but you could spend anything from a couple of grand to 6 figure sums easily...
Do you want to run off the running gear from another road car or do you have enough to go bespoke as Pete mentions?
Bespoke isn't a problem, done a few of those LOL

i always thought that would be the best for power and budget , adapting a evo engine and drivetrain into a 306, transverse engine o so should be a lot easier than a cossie lump. i may be talking shite though as i have never looked under an evo

It's a fairly small transfer 'box on the evo so shoehorning shouldn't take too much fab work.

the bloke who owned pugperformance a while back is selling his 306 4x4, he has 2 x mi16 running gear, but like others have said will not put up with alot of power but he also has t16 running gear if you want to run more power than say 200hp!
believe he want £3000 for the lot so 2x mi4x4 running gear and 1 x t16 running gear!!

405 running gear will take 200, much more than that and you're hoping.

'cheapest' way is to weld a whole 406 V6 front end in the back I'd imagine...

bearing in mind that pug performance has already done this conversion and he is selling up for 3k, i would have alarm bells ringing. has to be the ultimate 306 a 4x4 turbo charged.....but cant handle more than 200hp???.
the fabrication involved must be hours and hours so make sure it all gonna work.
this conrversion is going to cost thousands but keep us posted with regular updates, most exciting thing to be mentioned on here for years

you do have to wonder why you would take one rather tasty evo and remove its gubbins and put it in a 306 LOL
Personally I'd say save your money and just buy an evo job done

£3000 is for the shell and running gear then another 4.5 for the t16 engine!! Mi16x4 can only take upto 200 not the t16 which i believe can handle more!!

just buy one the police have gone for a joy ride in! Thumbs up

    sounds like an interesting project!
but seems like a hell of a lot of hassle unless you going in for some serious competition? Blink

buy a cheap Evo! doesn't matter if it's been rolled does it? LOL

If you had a written off evo 6-7 that had a trick engine in 4k maybe a 306 shell and an Ateam type workshop, shit load of time on your hands awide arch maxi kit,(proper one mind, never mind all that fibre glass shit) and the tech now how. i think it would be a worth while 40 k spent

If you were gonna spend 40K I wouldn't be running second hand evo transmissions and a steel road shell tbh...

i can't see the point of running 4wd or rwd and only running 200 bhp, might aswell keep the fwd setup. imo you need 300-400+ to actually make it worth the effort
