Hi, not an issue as such but more of a (CAN IT BE SAVED) type of thing? Before I took the head off my engine due to head gasket issues the mot that I had on it just passed the emissions test.. The lambda was fine.. So I've put this down as coolant being mixed with combustion and covering the internals of the cat causing damage that's why it just passed the test. The cat has only done 10,000 miles. Now I've rebuilt the head and it's all fresh and clean. At the time of the mot I didn't realise that the head gasket was on its way out as it didn't show any signs at all.. It was about a month after the mot it started losing coolant and misfiring etc.. I've read that cat cleaners don't work and others have said to run the engine up to temp, disconnect a coil pack and run engine at 2000 rpm for 5 to 10 mins to clean the cat?? Or should I just by new? Thanks in advance. ________________________________________ C. Hughes |

no, its not like a DPF.not sure why the hell you would run it with an intentional misfire, as that will just dump neat fuel into the cat and definitely kill it off, as well as killing the rings and bore on that cylinder after washing the oil off with neat petrol. you say its only 10k miles old so its not going to be a decent genuine unit, but a cheap aftermarket one and these never last long, two to three years is the best I've had from them. best bet is to get it nice and warm on a good road test and see what happens. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Hi, I haven't run it with a misfire.. I just happend to come across it whilst I was looking online. That's why I asked on this forum but point taken I'll buy a genuine one and leave it at that. Thanks for your reply welshpug.. Much appreciated. ________________________________________ C. Hughes |

besides and italian tune up to clear it....(wont do much for your cat)its my experience from every single mot ive been to. that it always just passes emmisions regardless of cat age. as welshpug said, making sure the cat is hot for the test can help a lot. a quick heatwrap kit around it might add enough heat to pass. but tbh if your going to that much effort id just replace the cat anyways. ________________________________________ the world is changed by people in sheds |
