Change the fuel pump relay mine operated in the normal way as you would expect on prime and so on but if it's got wet inside as did mine after a jet wash then this could be your issue. I'm pretty sure it will behave after.

Is that the multifunction relay behind the relay that we changed?

It's been decatted as the original cat wasn't a fan of the over fueling and decided to implode.

The multifunction relay was indeed changed after the wash as it was running perfectly before hand.

That rules that out. I hate this I broke my last gti6 because it kept developing a massive flat spot every now and then swapped over loads of parts never sorted it

We'll get there I hope. I've had this car for 6 years now so have no intentions of giving up on it. I'd probably a buy a perfectly good one to use for parts to salvage mine. LOL

Yes black one commonly called fuel pump relay but gives power for spark etc too so technically multifunction relay.

Was annoyed when that didn't cure it.... had.a nice bulge and crack in with a large gap so thought water probably got in there. Got 2 used and one new at work so threw that on still the same.

Do you think this is more an electrical problem or a mechanical problem because reading some parts of the thread to me it looks like there's a dirty engine with an inlet with resonator box and a nice clean engine without the inlet resonator box obviously the inlet has been off and painted and a welded bung in the hole. I have no idea what welding a bung in place to do away with the box but could this be the issue or a faulty inlet gasket could cause s**t running. Maybe have a look around there. Or maybe the little vacuum pipe is blocked.

Oh btw not sure if it's actually called a resonator box I just wanted to sound smart like you

Yes. It had a bung welded in and was powdercoated. The bung shouldn't make any real difference. Many 6's have done away with the resonator. It's a brand new gasket and as far as I'm aware the little pipe is clear although pete will clarify that. It's all sealed up as it was all sprayed with a brake cleaner or something. If it revved up it was taking it in and burning it but it didn't. Also, the misfire started as soon as it was washed.

Here's something to check/think about.

Check the condition of engine wiring loom running to the lambda plug...I have known in the past that this wiring has become damaged/burnt and caused intermittent bad running.
