Hi all just finishing putting my beam together. I am having few issues getting the end plate on to my hybrid arb it's so tight I have got one plate on fine but the bigger end is really tight it does seem to be going on but I have just snapped a m8 bolt trying to pull it together should it be that tight?

Took the car round the block for a test to see if the rear beam is okay. I have a noise coming from the near side read when I go over any bumps. Almost like a Ping noise. Slightly concered that I have trashed the spline on the end of the arb. Am I right in saying I could take the 13mm bolts out the end plate an drive it round the block if the noise has gone I no it's deffenatly todo with the arb? Any advice guys please

My guess would be the end plates arent tightened to the trailing arms enough. I had a similar problem a while ago after building my new beam up, it was just the end plate slipping a bit before it would then hit the bolt if that makes sense.

I left a small gap as I fort it the arb should move freely.

how small a gap? should be 0.5mm per side.

if you get pinging then the 13mm bolts aren't holding the end plates properly, or the bushes are knackered.

What condition were the arb end plate bushes in? They make a noise when they're knackered.

You could indeed undo the arb to rule it out Wink

I used a feeler gauge at 0.5mm same as the gab between trailing arm an beam tube. I had to use one of the arb end plates off my old beam as the ones. Had bought where both the same size an one end of arb is bigger. But I put the seals an orange from the end plate on it

So did you fit the arb bushes and were they in good condition?

I've had this before get a twanging noise when you go slowly over a bump and was the rubber bush on the ARB fooked. Either that's the problem or they aren't sat right when you put I together. They often don't sit in the correct place when you pinch them up.

Just been out an had a tinker. Was bugging me. Had a look and read through the FAQ again. I have looked and the only thing I can think I had done wrong was a little confused about the offset washer. I think I hasnt pushed the torsion bars in enough . An I gave the arb end plate a tightend the 13 mm bolts

Thanks god it seems fine I would have me furious with myself if I had knackered anything

That makes no sense whatsoever! Hopefully you've put it together right, it sounds like you haven't though to be honest...

Il be honest I'm abit lost with the offset washers I had read FAQ over over. I'm no mechanic as I have said before. I hope it's right tho. I asked a chap I use to do the work in the rear beam but he was busy and I'm impatient so tackled it myself
