ive got some new oil and filter from pug and also have a engine flush.
is it better to add it then take it for a run?
or add it and just let it tickover for 10 mins??

then drain and refill/sweap filter.

stella artois says anjoy responsibly on the tin but most people dont!!!!LOL

i was just wondering if it would be better taking it for a quick run or letting it tick over for ten minutes, thats what it says on the tin!

your better off getting 5l of flushing oil if you really want to do it properly:

Flushing Oils These are very thin oils so never drive your car with these oils in the engine as it will not last very long. These oils are designed to clean out the deposits in the oil ways of your engine. To use them, drain the oil engine oil but leave the old filter in place. Fill up with flushing oil and then run the engine at fast idle (very low load) for 20 to 30 minutes then drain the oil and see what comes out.Change the oil and filter and then fill up with your preferred engine oil. Be warned using flushing oil can sometimes do more harm than good especially in an old engine ( in most classics) as the flushing oil removes deposits which have built up over the years, these deposits can seal up parts of the engine (sump gaskets, head gaskets and even seal the piston rings). Once the deposits have gone the engine can leak or worse blow past the pistons rendering the engine scrap.

Top advice jose- my dad was an engineer who dealt with a lot of old style engines classics as you describe them- and he would never reccomend flushing- a week of every day motoring with supermarket oil and a new filter and decent oil is as far as you should go. A 6 engine unless very worn should be ok with flushing but never drive with flushing oil!!

I'd never use engine flush - just let the car warm up then drop the oil ? If you do it more regular intervals you will never have any reason to use that thinin crap Smile

i allready have mate, i left it ticking over with the engine flush in for 15 minutes then drained in adn changed the filter and refilled with nice new shiny stuff!!

i said i wouldnt want to drive it to the end of the road and back with that in, not that i had, and i certainly wouldnt of left it in, it was what peugeot dealer gave me so i was more confident in using it then i would of with motor spares shop stuff.

he thought i had taken it for a spin with the flush in and then left the flush in, as i asked if this is what i should do, after hearing the car running with it in after 20 minutes i said i wouldnt want to drive it even to the end of the road with that stuff in, it sounded terrible after 20 mins!!
sounds much beter and smoother now, im sure its added a bit more bottom end torque

As Kev said, really this is something to avoid using! Am I right in thinking some '6s have oil temperature gauges where the oil pressure gauge (as I have on my phase 1) would otherwise be?

If you don't have an oil temp gauge, just waiting until the coolant is up to temperature isn't enough - if you let the engine get hot enough for the fans to kick in (i.e. not only is the coolant in the engine itself hot, but the entire cooling system is too) then you're getting there, but even then I'd keep going a little bit to make sure the oil is nice and hot before draining it.

With the flush stuff, you can never guarantee that all of the oil thinner will drain out of the engine, so when you fill it back up your fresh oil is compromised right from the start.

Yep, Phase 2 and 3 have oil temp gauges on the dash. Yes
