Finally fitted my new brake setup, and they're awesome. However, I thought that with the Xantia discs they wouldn't squeel?

I've not applied any copper grease to the backs of the pads, would this help prevent squeel?
If I've got to accept it then so be it, but if I could get rid I'd be grateful for any advice! Laugh

They're coupled to Mintex M1144 pads BTW.

Cheers

It seems to be pot luck, daveyboy runs and identical set up and they squeek like hell, he tried copper slip and some other stuff, which helped for a bit but now they squeek.
If you can solve this you will be a very popular person

Copper Slip should be used yep but as said it's unlikely to stop the squeeling completely No

Have a chat to Mike (Cosmic Spanner) and Carl (Mech repairs) as i believed they have both used some special liquid Whistle to good effect Yes Thumbs up

Am I the only one whose Brembos don't squeel?
They very very rarly let out the odd squeek when braking very lightly but no more than than the standard ones did and just pushing on the pedal a little firmer shuts them up.

I've never done anything special to them either, just copper slip on the backs of the pads. DS2500 pads and I think Tarox G88 discs.

E-mail Mintex and mention your 1144's are squeeling like bugger and do that have any recommendations to stop it - they'll normally send you some rubber shims out.

I've heard that Kent Brake Pad Silencer P/N 50160 is meant to work effectively.

"Brake Pad silencer has been formulated to prevent and cure brake noise generated from the friction material on the brake pad such as squeal. This noise is generated by air trapped in the pits and voids on the face of the pad, being expelled during braking. BT72 soaks into the pad and fills these voids, ensuring that the problem is removed. It is totally unique in the market, all other systems using greases to the back of the brake pad to try and disguise the noise. Applications are on all vehicles with brake discs."

It's what I intend to try when I fit my Brembos to the 405 track car (as soon as I can find lightweight 15" rims to suit).

Are the Brembos anything like the old Porsche/Ferrari Brembos with stainless steel plates where the backing plates touch at the top and bottom of the caliper? If so, check to see if there is plate lift there. If there is, it will need to be sorted or your brakes will forever be squealing.

Yes

Mine had a load of corrosion behind them. I couldn't get the screws undone to get them off but managed to prise them up enough to file them flat behind.

Mine haven't ever squealed so far but I have the 330mm kit from ash, cleaned the corrosion and filed the plates so the pads moved easily and used mintex cera tec instead of copper slip.
