...some sort of Mobil 75 single viscosity oil that says on the label that it replaces, and will provide superior fuel economy to, the BV 75w80 and is suitable for all PSA vehicles manufactured in Europe. It has a Peugeot/Citroen logo on the bottle, and I had this discussion at a Peugeot dealer.

Now I do recall discussions some time ago that the gearbox on these cars is sensitive to the gearbox oil used, and the factory stuff was the best. But this official replacement is a different viscosity to the one originally specified for these cars. The only other thing he had was a Nissan 75w80 gearbox oil.

I'm thinking that the single grade will be thinner when hot, probably where the claimed improvement in fuel economy comes from. I'm wondering how will this affect a 120K mile gearbox?

Has anyone else had this conundrum, and if so what did they do. I warned him I'd take advice and might bring it back.

its the additives in other oils that cause issues, the new o.e oil is intended for all be boxes.

Excellent, thanks all for the responses. I'll put it in the car on Sunday, along with some Millers CFS 10w40 ester synthetic for the engine. I even remembered to get two sump plugs, as I've forgotten to get an extra one for the gearbox plug the last couple of times (hoping it is the same size as the engine one).

I'll follow up on the motaquip tip as well, forgot that they do some OE-spec stuff for PSA cars as a mechanic told me when I first got the Rallye.

Engine sump plug washer and box plug washers are different sizes. The box one plug is larger, I found this out after removing the plug and dropping the oil Sad

I also don't think you can just buy the gearbox plug washer from the dealers, only the entire plug. Think it's only £7 or something though
