Hi all,switched car off and went into shop,came out and started it and it was running like a bag of bolts and a really bad tapping noise which sounds like it's coming from top end,car has no power either now.any ideas to point me in the right direction

Check everything is secure check your sparks are in sounds like a slipped belt but eliminate all other possibilities

As super said a vid always helps

It will probably start if the belt has slipped a tooth, but there will be bent valves and it will run like a pig. Yes

turn the belt 90degres at the longest point is right

45degrees is too tight

Belt is slack between the 2 cams so think it has jumped as it shouldn't be slack there

It is normal for a little bit of slack between the cams, due to they way they sit.

It won't be tight tight anyhow.

It has to be very slack to jump a tooth.

It's worth checking:

- timing
- plugs
- check cam sprocket bolts are tight

Checked plugs and 3 were slack,tightened up and started and still running like its misfiring and like a rapper rattle from top end of engine.the timing belt I can nearly skip off by hand,shouldn't be able to do that should I???

Maybe tensioner has gave way or something,getting it looked at on Tuesday,might be selling as spares or repairs by the looks of things 😩😩😩

Sounds like the belt has slipped then if it's that loose.

Either the tensioner will have moved or the adjustable cam pulley(s) may have come loose.

Timing belt had stripped 6 teeth of it,stuck new belt on it and car runs fine apart from a tapping noise now,gets louder when u Rev the car!could it maybe have caught a valve or would the hydraulic tappers break up?
