Well I started my car yesterday to move it & left it ticking over for a while as its not been started for a while ...
I'm looking under the bonnet as I can smell petrol & then I've got 2-3ft flames coming out of my drivers side under car by side of subframe ...
Turn ignition off then kill switch & grab a 2litre foam Fire Extinguisher & put it out ....
Was on fire for 5-10 secs ?
It appears my Fuel lines been rubbed & hit & it just gave up & sprayed Petrol towards my hot Manifold & the rest is history Crazy
No damage apart from all three plastic fuel lines burnt inc one that goes to the drivers side inner wing Breather canister ...

I think it's time for a under boot swirl pot & Teflon / Braided fuel lines through out ...going to visit Torques tomorrow hopefully ...
I S-it myself LOL

I had a close call with mine when i first got the track car back on the road, the fuel rail mounting bolts vibrated out whilst driving, then 'pop' as the rail lifted off the injectors and sprayed petrol everywhere.
Luckily it didn't ignight or i'd have been pretty screwed!
The next day i went out and bought myself an extinguisher that now lives in the car Laugh

I was told you couldn't use copper for fuel lines when I did my fuel lines on my mini. Or was this lies ?

The copper will leach into the fuel, especially with modern ethanol content.

What size is the stuff you get from Peugeot for 205's etc? must be around 8mm, comes in lengths of about 4m.

IIRC - might be out a bit here, it's a while since I read the studies - it was about 10-15 years to eat through enough copper wall thickess (just over a mm or so) to make the pipe burst at injection pressures with e10.
However, that's accelerated where you've bent the pipe and a)made it thinner and b ) introduced stress microcracking from forming it.
I'm sure I saw somewhere selling coated copper for fuel lines though, might be one of the hotrod sites as I was looking for stainless steel brake piping at the time.

I've just plumbed in a full dry sump system and redone all my fuel hoses in BMRS Pro Gold hose. The best prices by far were with Rally Design, they were nearly 50% cheaper than Think Auto, although I've always had good service from Think but they do seem to be pricey.

Unfortunately Rally Designs prices made Torques stuff look expensive for what is a cheaper product, but aside from that I could not fault Torques, brilliant service and very helpful, even let me return a load of stuff past the returns period so I still get a lot of stuff from them, and fast delivery too, almost everything arrives next day. Only reason I didn't use them in the end was there PTFE hose isn't as bendy as I needed, so I had to move onto the BMRS stuff which is convoluted and very bendy!

Phil, sure the coated copper was the correct stuff? Most copper is coated externally which I can't see would help with fuel, unless someones selling internally coated copper?! I'd use powder coated aluminium tube, often called hard tube, or hardline or something, its bendable and also resistant to all fuels.

Yeah, internal coated, can't remember what it was called but it was under a trade/brand name. Will have a look for it.
