At Brands currently and having issues with the brakes. They don't seem to be releasing properly. I thought it was something to do with the vacuum in case I plumbed it in wrong from the bodies on the new engine but removed that and still seems to be doing it.

They are fine when you undo the bleed nipples a bit as it releases the pressure but pretty much as soon as you press the pedal again it has issues.

Any ideas?

Check the pushrod clearance, probably a bit too tight.

remove the master cylinder and the rod poking out of the servo which presses into the master cylinder. i had to wind mine in about 1-2 turns from memory when fitting my gti6 MC into the 205 gti servo for clearance

Looks like it is this problem. I don't run a GTi6 MC either so could be it's never worked properly

Yeah, you'll get it worse as the brakes warm up. And as they warm up, they bind more, and warm up further, until they won't come off.

There is a spec for the clearance, but I used to just jack the car up, and tweak it bit by bit until I could feel a slight drag after pressing the brakes (with the engine running to make vacuum in the servo!), then wind it back half a turn, take it for a quick spin around the block warming the brakes through and tweak it from there if it was still binding.
That way I could get as little slack as possible in the brake pedal/system without them locking on, the brakes on my 1.4 were quite frankly awesome, I've even had to modify the Brembo's on the 406 just because the pedal feel was so s**t compared LOL

not sure on the 306 spec but in the zx haynes its specified at 24.8 mm +/- 0.1mm from the face to the nose of the pushrod

I bodged a fix by putting some washers under the MC to space it out a bit. I'm pretty certain the problem is caused part by the larger MC and part because I didn't bother to refit the large rubber grommet the servo sits in which means it's closer to the pedal now. I tried to wind in the rod on a spare MC I have but it didn't seem to move anywhere?

some aren't adjustable., you do need to hold the rod whilst winding the nut on the end in.

If you've put washers under the master cylinder the seal won't be up against the servo....you'll have unassisted brakes.
That and a washer thickness will be far too much, your brakes will have some serious slack.

That's what I expected yet the servo seemed to be working fine. We ran with unassisted brakes earlier in the day and it was nothing like that.
