Can someone tell me if this rubber washer thing should sit right inside the speedo housing as it doesn't look like it will fit. If it doesn't then where does it go. Currently got gearbox oil running out so clearly something's not put back the way it's meant to be.

I suspect your driveshaft seal is too far in or damaged.

The seal sits behind that big rubber donut. It needs to sit flush with the three upstands on the face, or at least that's how i did my last one.

It was a brand new seal I fitted so hopefully not damaged but too far in may be possible. So does the rubber ring just sit where I've got it in the photo?

Rubber thingy sits just outside of box, it has nothing to do with the seal. The seal is damaged/ badly positioned or something.....Unsure

The rubber donut is for the driveshaft, not the gearbox.

I can only suppose it's either a cheap seal or it's in a bit far. Smile

The seals themselves should be flush with the housing, I usually use a rubber mallet to knock them home to avoid damaging them.

Regarding the donut, as said its just a dust seal for the main seal, sits as you have it in the photo. Smile

What would you call early type? I do tonnes of these both sides always change them when ever I do a clutch on anything French and always gently and evenly tap them flush. Never had a single one come back leaking. Did one on my red rallye Saturday too.

dont push the seals in too far or it blocks the oil drain from the back of the seal forcing oil past the seal to leak Wink

I always use the early type seals an tap them flush, never have they leaked.

The ones I bought from Peugeot were slightly different to the ones I took out. The original ones had a white toothed ring on it whilst the new ones didn't. I thought I had fitted it in the correct location however that would appear to not be the case. When I get back to it, I'll take another photo of the seal behind that rubber ring and you can all tell me if I've got it wrong.

I took this photo as a reminder of which way the clutch fork went back in and I'm pretty sure that was the new seal I had put in there....so this is too far in? Should it be flush with the outer casing?

Error are you sure there's even a seal in there? Either that or you e managed to smash it right in there....
