I wouldn't bother yet, checking for spark is far easier, no spark = either ecu isn't getting power or its locked, and lastly, CPS, rare they fail.

So got sum new spark plugs, still no spark. Tried testing this crank sensor thing, which I assume is the connectors inside that brown plug in the picture and it's not giving me any resistance.

So does this mean it's now my crank sensor as well as my fuel pump and spark plugs... Oh and my fuel pump relay. All of which worked one evening and then the next morning decided not to. Stupid car only needed to keep working until the end of September before being sorned.

if could be your ECU of crank sensor. one of them will stop the plugs sparking. this does not mean the plugs are knackered..

Well I'm getting no resistance from the crank sensor (if testing the connectors inside the brown plug is the way u get it) so could be that?

Tom, I'd try replacing the crank sensor. Relatively cheap and that will stop the plugs firing.

No resistance is a fairly decent indicator....

Is there a guide anywhere on changing the crank sensor? I couldn't figure out how to get mine off so when I tested it I tested it awkwardly in situ?

What's left of one so its a bit hit and miss. But from what I've found my crank sensor is attached to the frame with a bolt and nut underneath ?

google "gti6 crank sensor" to see what it looks like. it's just a 10mm bolt holding it into the gearbox casing and it lifts out. you're probably on about the brown plug being clipped onto something to keep it away from the gearbox. probably just slides off the clip
