hi all,

So the rallye wouldn't start last week. Battery is good as its turn and turn and turn but not fire. Then I realised the fuel pump was priming with ignition. Bought second hand pump off eBay and fitted. Pump now primes fine and I've tried priming it three times before trying to actually turn the engine on, but the engine should won't come on?

So what do i check next?

The relay behind the battery would probably be my advice to check.

Thought the relay could only be an issue if it wasn't priming? And it's priming just fine

    Doi!! I'll check those in sec.

    Does it mean anything that with the relay bypass in place the engine warning light is not on, yet with the relay in place its on?

    I've done the relay checks as per the faq I think it checks out ok?

    Also can't check the spark plugs as I have no tools that'll reach into that deep hole to unscrew them and bring them out

    I don't know what your issue is but I strongly recommend investing in the correctly sizedspark plug socket. Should only be a few pounds and will allow you to a. check for spark now and b. change your spark plugs in the future

    I'd suggest getting one of the Halfords toolkits that are nearly always on offer, not much more you'll need on a 306 other than a 35mm socket and a multimeter.

    As said, check for spark. If no spark - suspect crank sensor.

    So removed one of the spark plugs today, and placing it on the back of the engine (that's how far the wires would reach) and turned the car over... No spark.

    Am I testing them right? It just seems weird that first my fuel pump wasn't priming, so I change it and then there's something unrelated wrong as well?

    Would changing the spark plugs help? As this testing of the crank sensor from the faq looks beyond me

    Did you check the shock sensor that cuts off the fuel? Looks like red button inside the engine bay close to the ecu boxSmile

    It shouldn't prime when the inertia switch has triggered but worth checking anyway. Just press the red button behind the ECU and make sure you don't feel it switch / move. If it does move then it had triggered.

    coilpacks need earthing for them to work
    if you have unbolted one and reasted it on the head i suspect its lost its earthpath through the bolts Wink

    Coil pack doesn't earthing they are insulated, but push the spark plug back into the coil pack and have the threaded part of the spark plug resting on the cam cover somewhere. Turn the engine over and watch for a spark from the anode.
    You will need a multimeter to do the checks on the crank sensor as above.

    it's just next to the gearbox mount on the top, black plastic plug with a brown connector
