Hi all, after more of your expert info.

My cambelt is in need of replacement, and although I have read lots of info on here about 137 vs 136 etc I have failed to take any of that info in. Now I need it I can't find the relevant posts anywhere.

What I seem to remember is go for a 136T belt setup, but I may need a revised bolt (for the idler maybe?) that is NFP but is available as something else? Or am I just imagining this as I can't find any info to back it up?

Basically I won't be doing the work myself but want to make sure the right parts are used ie supply the correct 'special' bolt myself if it comes to it.

I have done so many searches now my head hurts, I'm not asking noob questions just for the sake of it.

Your help, as always, is very much appreciated

Barry

The column screw is NFP, but your car may be fitted with the earlier setup already? If not either get a second hand column screw off someone like Bigbadbowen, or put a 137 kit on. I don't believe there is anything available in place of the column screw listed.

Hope this helps! Thumbs up

Thanks for that jeffers, I knew I wasn't just making this up!

Thing is I don't know what my car currently has as the belt etc.was changed 30K ago.

As I( don't know for sure I will have to supply the correct bolt and specify which belt to fit wouldn't I?

Am I correct that the 136T belt is the one to go for. Or am I wrong on that?

Barry

if its an early engine you may want to change to the later type cam pulleys, as they are supposedly stronger than the earlier 3 bolt adjusting type

the early engines had a manual tensioner with the later being an auto spring loaded jobie Wink

136 is more reliable yes, the double springs gives the sprung tensioner a hell of a workout, and yes the earlier cam pulleys seem prone to cracking.

Thanks for the info guys. So sounds like I am looking for a 136T belt setup and get a column screw off Bigbadbowen to make sure it fits.

TBH I am not sure how the cam pulleys work on these, and as I 'think' I have a Longmans 270 inlet cam fitted with retarded timing I'm not looking to replace one anytime soon. At least until I get some pocketed pistons.

Barry.
Whatever you do do NOT buy the Dayco 136t kit from Euro.

We fitted this on the weekend and needed to modify the tensioner bolt due to poor manufacturing of the tensioner.

The kit that came off was an INA one which was far fat superior in quality.

Euro sell the INA one for about £20 more. Get that one and avoid the Dayco!

Had I known the quality was that bad I would have got the INA but we managed to get around it and all is well now.

Hope this helps man.

More often than not the pullys in the Dayco kit are made by INA anyway.... I'd never had any problems with Dayco kits at all until I had one on a hdi110 lump in a xsara fail... The pullys have been hanged for cheaper plastic items rather than metal and the outer plastic sleeve on the idler had broken free and slid out eating its way through the cam cover...

Fortunately the customer complained of a noise before it went bang and we relaxed the whole kit under warrenty and sent it back to Dayco.

Bought an INA kit for a 106gti last week and it came with a Dayco belt in not an INA one lol it's a bit like mix and match to be honest. Most gates Kits have INA pullys too. Just depends when it was made as to if you get cheap s**te or decent metal pullys.

I've fitted two genuine 136 kits lately both ordered from the same dealer, one came with two metal INA pullys the other came with one metal and one plastic. Both ha same Dayco belt with red lettering rather than normal blue lettering.
