Hi all,

noticed the other day the cars started making a weird noise, it increases with the revs of the engine. I have a couple of videos of it which ill post. Typical just as i wanted to sell it.

and this is one of it driving along at about 4K rpm towards the end of the video you can hear the noise disappear as the clutch is dipped

any chance it could be something simple like a loose spark plug or is it going to be something more?

If it stops when you press th clutch then I'd say it was a thrust bearing issue

Once the revs drop it stops, or at least quietens down massively, seems very influenced by the revs.

I'm not sure what a thrust bearing is, how can I check that?

Sounds like a bottom end knock in the first video. In the second one could be bottom end or knackered gearbox / diff problem as it goes when you press the clutch and cut the gearbox speed.

However without being there it could still be bottom end knock and it's just quieter on idle when warm so when you dipped the clutch it went quiet but when going Along at 4k it's loud.

Thrust bearing is attached to the clutch pres plate. How old is the clutch ? Mileage on the clutch ?

I'm not sure about the clutch mileage to be honest, the cars on 145k though.

Bottom end issues doesn't sound good or cheap to fix so Sounds like it might be time for the car to meet its maker.

Thanks for the advice guys

It's not too bad doing the bottom end, but easier to just change the engine.

To be honest if it's that I think, I'll have to just sell it as it is.

Might be of use to someone for a track car or for bits

just check the plugs first, but I wouldn't go running it much and definitely would not drive it as yiu gave s high chance of rendering the whole engine scrap if it is bottom end related.

Well unfortunately my socket set doesn't have a long enough bar to take each plug out.

However the spark plugs are not loose enough to undo by hand (without the ratchet bar on) so I doubt it's a loose spark plug.
